Remembering Eunice Kennedy Shriver127 dni temu

As a board member of the Special Olympics International, it is such a tremendous loss having to say goodbye to our beloved founder, Eunice Kennedy Shriver. Her dynamic vision, undeniable passion for the intellectually disabled and courage to change the world will be missed on a global level.
My introduction to the world of Special Olympics was through Bobby Shriver. I was asked to contribute to the Very Special Christmas album. What Child Is This was a perfect fit to a terrific musical idea that helped expose the Special Olympics movement to the masses.
I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Mrs. Shriver on many occasions - at the world games in Japan, China, board meetings in DC and New York and I also sang for her at the Clinton White House. I even attended her 85th birthday at the Bush White House just a few years back. She was always interested in my interests, career and especially my children.
My greatest honor was portraying a mother whose son had Down's syndrome in the independent film My Brother. We had a special screening in DC that she attended with me. What an honor and what a legacy.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all the family and the entire Special Olympics movement.

Hannah Montana, TV Land, Album, LA - NY, etc556 dni temu

Hey Yall!
I've been jetting back and forth between LA, NY and Nashville. I'm working on the Hannah Montana movie down South, hosted the TV Land Awards last weekend and trying to tie up my 2 year life in LA (since Ugly Betty was moved to NYC).
I've been lucky to continue to mix it up in my career. I perform my show at casinos frequently, am currently in the studio working on my next album and this past<br>weekend got a chance to combine singing, dancing and comedy in my opening number for the TV Land Awards.
The producer sat down at our first meeting and asked if I had any ideas for the show opener. I asked what had been done before. Last year, Kelly Ripa hosted and flew over the audience as the Flying Nun. Sounded cool, I thought. But they assumed that I wouldn't do any crazy stunt like that. Guess they didn't know me! I told them I would love to fly since I have no fear of heights and I flew 8 shows as week onto my web in Kiss of the Spiderwoman, so bring it on!!!
So, ladies and gentlemen, get ready for a hilarious combination of all your favorite TV stars harnessed and floating through the air. JJ Walker, Horshak, Marianne, Greg Brady, Gary Colemen, Doc form Love Boat ...even Nelly from Little House are all flying. And I get a chance to join in at the very end!
There's a great tribute to Lionel Richie during and I wrap the show with "All Night Long."<br><So tune in, enjoy, and watch the wardrobe changes! I'm wearing a few Marchesa dresses for the first time!
Check them out!
Have a beautiful summer!
Love,
V

WGA Strike...774 dni temu

I just left a screening of Ugly Betty with all of our writers tonight. The "Posh Wedding" episode was chock full of excitement. Stay tuned to see what Wilhelmina is up to. You'll never guess!

I feel so sorry for our striking writers who picket the entrance of the studios. If it weren't for their words, our show wouldn't be the hit that it is. I gave them a basket of candy when I went to work Monday and I plan to participate in a PSA on the WGA's behalf next week.

Ugly Betty has only two more completed scripts to shoot. If the strike isn't resolved soon, we'll shut down December 6th... Stay tuned.

Strike, 'Betty, New CD and more...776 dni temu

Hey Friends,

'Time for a catch-up blog...

I gave candy to the writers on the picket line this week in front of Raleigh Studios. Though we hope the strike is quickly resolved, I totally feel the writers need to be compensated for their brilliance. I'll continue shooting Ugly Betty through December 6, when we finish the last two completed scripts. The only bright side of the possible time off from shooting "Betty" is that I can jump into the studio to work on my new CD with Concord Records.

Speaking of the new CD, I'll be working with Keith Thomas again (producer of Save The Best For Last, Colors Of The Wind) and Rob Mathes. Siedah Garrett is set to write a song too. We actually met up in Shanghai during the Special Olympics Summer Games last month.

I'm heading to Syracuse University (my alma mater) in a few days for Parents Weekend on Jillian's behalf. I've only seen Jillian on ichat since I dropped her off at school. I can't wait to watch the Orangemen in the dome!

Also, stay tuned for my nuptials Thursday (tomorrow) night on Ugly Betty. Be prepared for a wild ride & don't miss cameos by Vera Wang, Victoria Beckham & Rick Fox!

Last, I don't know yet where I'll be for Thanksgiving. I'm thinking of New York, but if I only have a few more weeks of shooting, then I may stay in LA until we're done. Either way, I hope all of you enjoy a beautiful Thanksgiving with those you love!

Best ~ V.

I just landed in LA. Back to work for me...

The weekend was hectic but full of happiness. Cincinnati Pops was a wonderful orchestra and it's always such a pleasure when I have the luxury of live strings enhance my music. Thank God for a great brass section, too, which got a chance to shine on Sondheim's "There Won't Be Trumpets." (By the way, Rob Mathes will be arranging "Trumpets" & "Never Has Seen Snow" so we can add them to the Broadway section of my concert with the band only. We may work on the theme song for "Kiss of the Spiderwoman" as well.)

And, what a surprise when the NJPAC was nearly filled to the brim on Sunday after they threatened to cancel the date due to slow ticket sales! Thank you to all of you for showing up for a 5 o'clock curtain and making me feel like I was "Judy at the Palace!"

Two quick days home with all the kids & now back to "Betty." And speaking of my favorite show, let's talk about how my castmates showed up in full force for the Jersey show! America, Michael, Rebecca & the glittering Becki Newton, were all in attendence accompanied by their gorgeous families & friends. I also got a chance to see our "Betty" guest star & Broadway legend, Patti Lupone, in "Gypsy" on Monday night. That was theater history right there. Phenomenal! Plus my former castmate from "Into the Woods," Laura Benanti, was ideal!

Thanks again, all of you, for a terrific weekend!

Love ya,

V.
