| We're back from London! (have been for a wee while) The debate (mentioned below) went really well. As well as getting to see the great work the Equality & Human Rights Commission have been doing it was good to see so many dedicated and determined young people with such good ideas for their own campaigns! As for our campaign, we're starting planning for another conference in another part of the country. Don't hold your breath, it takes AGES! But we'll let you know more when we do Who Knows! Could be near you! x | ||||

| On the road (well, rails) again! | hace 14 días | |||
| We are delighted, in the aftermath of a successful Learning & Skills Council conference in York, to be invited by the Equality & Human Rights Commission to attend a youth debate on identity-based bullying. The event, which takes place this Saturday in London, will be a fantastic opportunity for us to take forward our positive message to other young people who have a desire to see change happen in our society. We’ll be heading there by way of a four-hour train journey straight down the East Coast Mainline- plenty of time to work on our presentation! As ever we shall have our trusty video camera with us so we can bore you with our journey and the event itself! We have plenty of ideas for the campaign in the coming months, so we shall be sure to keep you up to date. As ever, thank you for your continued support! Rachael & Dave x | ||||

| Short Break | hace 210 días | |||
| Hello supporters! Unfortunately the campaign is going to have to slow for a bit. Half of us (David) are revising for upcoming exams and prelims What a bore!And the other half (Rachael) are going to be without an internet connection for the next week or so, while we change providers. So apologies if videos and blogs go missing and comments get left for a wee bit but we're trying to find inventive ways to work round these problems We love you! R&D x | ||||

| Conference Update | hace 220 días | |||
| Hello there! We are very pleased to be able to give you more info on our lovely conference! We are holding an event bringing young people together with top-level decision makers to share their stories of homophobic bullying in further education and gain a commitment from providers to bring about a change in the situation. A workshop with young people will be held prior to the event (in July- we think!) to find out how they would like the conference to run and the sorts of issues they feel it needs to address. We're thinking about inviting young people from the region and senior management from further education learning providers to the event which should be taking place in October. Once we've got their attention, by inviting students to share their stories of homophobic bullying to the stage and by letting them hear some frightening facts and statistics, we want them to show us how they are going to make a difference in their institution. We're still not sure how we're going to check up on their progress or what we're going to ask them to do exactly but that's what the next few weeks of planning are for. Apologies for all our late blogs - bebo doesn't seem to like what we have to say and tends to crash when we hit save. :S Thanks for all your support. We'll keep you up to date with everything we know! David & Rachael x | ||||

| Conference Update :) | hace 225 días | |||
| Hello supporters. We apologise for this late blog - we've been up to our ears in exam preparation, site running and trying to relax! Last time we blogged, Rachael was off to Bradford to discuss the possiblity of a conference type event later this year. We were unsure if it would be going ahead. Well after a long chat with our mentors and all the lovely people who agreed to give up their time (including Steve Ward from the Learning and Skills Council we've agreed it can go ahead and will be fantastic!We're still planning (planning takes up most of our time these days) the who's, when's and how's but everything looks promising at the moment. We'll keep you up to date with anything else we find out! Thanks for your support! David & Rachael | ||||

| 30th April | hace 235 días | |||
| Hello. On the 30th of April our very own Rachael will be travelling to Bradford, with our mentors Rose & Rmishka, for a planning meeting. 'Planning what?' you ask? Well, we hope that in Sept we'll be having a conference all of our own to get all the very important people involved with our campaign. We'll be inviting some company heads, celebs and some people who may wish to join our team! We're very excited. As it's a planning meeting we don't know much more at the moment, but Rachael will be tweeting and filming all day so you'll be kept in the loop. Make sure you add AAHB on twitter and you watch our vimeo/youtube videos. Thanks, Rachael & David x | ||||

| Proposition 8 | hace 241 días | |||
| On the 4th November 2008 California voted to to keep marriage heterosexual. Many people argued that marriage was defined as ' The union of man and woman' and that if homosexual couples were allowed to marry it would 'redefine' marriage. We argue that marriage is a right, a symbol of how a couple feel for each other. If two people choose to marry, they agree to spend every waking moment in each other's arms. They agree to put up with each other's snoring, to share the housework and children. They agree to love only each other and to never keep secrets. Don't we all want someone to do all that with? (except the housework maybe Then what gives one human being the right to stop another human being from having all those things? California (along with many countries) have introduced 'civil partnerships', 'domestic partnerships', etc. to try and bridge a sociological gap. These are similar to the rights of marriage and have been given another name, a less meaningful one. For example, Rachael is bisexual- this puts her in a strange position. On the one hand, she's in love with David and if she chooses to spend the rest of her life with him they, could get married. But if she ends up with a woman, they will not be allowed to marry. They will be 'civil partners'. When people date, they are partners and unless they are in the army, technically, they are 'civil' partners. Why can't we use an umbrella term? Why can't we all get married? The facts of Propsition 8 can be found at: http://www.whatisprop8.com/ This is what we are up against: http://www.facebook.com/ext/share.ph... http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/... However, many people are on our side: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnHyy... http://www.nytimes.com/2009/04/15/ny... Please comment your views; we want to know what YOU think. x | ||||
