Good evening folks. Just a message for anyone that doesn't know the first ever creative writing society winter reading is on this thursday in the wondeful Belmont Cinema bar at 7.00 (though readings begin at 7.30). Please do come along, and perhaps even bring some folk with you to make a good evening of it all.

Dunno if the email has been sent yet, but we have booked the Belmont for a live reading on Thursday the 11th of December. As such this week's meeting (the 4th) has to be a rehearsal. If you would like to be part of the live reading then bring a piece in this thursday so we can sort out timing etc and get a bill of who is doing it.

So i repeat, this thursday is a rehearsal for the live reading

Oh, and just to give us a rough idea could you possibly leave a comment on our bebo page

Working on a follow up for our creative writing short film. This next one we have a rough scene by scene for and will be A LOT MORE ambitious so hope to have some help from you lot along the way. Wihtout giving much away it will follow a documentry style and will have a tonne more action in it than the last, be far more mature and also have far more sexual inneundo (although i do appreciate that those last 2 sentences do read like a contradiction). Shooting will begin next week so exciting times :)

First off, great reading last night, i think the sheer variation that we had really made the night something special. Whole year's had a wide range of stuff making the anthology a good collection too, far stronger collection than either of the previous two anyway so well done to us.

Anyway, thought i'd give a quick rundown of my favourite things from the year:

Favourite poems:
Anything by the excellent miss Brooker or Gavin's watersprites/ politics poem

Favourite short story:
Lots to choose from, though would have to go for Ashley's very jewish tale which was written to the usual high standard. Also very fond of one of the extracts Chris handed in (can't remember the name, but it was an opening section for some characters and took place during the christmas season)

Favourite reading:
Usually it would be Jo who had the standout reading, but this year Ciaren really stood out with a strong presence and energy, managing to do some strong serious work followed by Ginger Tossers which was just hilarious. Had the entire crowd loving it from the title alone and kept them in his hand for the entire duration

Most interesting story:
Gain's piece of hisotrical fiction was frankly very unique. Stands out stylistically and conceptually from everything else in the CWS year

Anyway, so how about everyone else? What are your picks?
