The Hollywood Reporter have today confirmed the actors to play the two main roles in the Prince of Persia Movie. Jake Gyllenhaal has been officially cast as Dastan(the prince has finally been given a name), the young prince and Gemma Arterton has been cast as the princess Tamina.(Farrahs name has been changed to tamina in the movie for some reason -_-), Alfred Molina will play Sheik Amar, who becomes a mentor to the prince. Ben Kingsley will be playing the villain Nizam.

"In the fantasy adventure, Gyllenhaal will play Dastan, a young prince in sixth century Persia who must join forces with Tamina (Arterton), a feisty and exotic princess, to prevent a villainous nobleman from possessing the Sands of Time, a gift from the gods that can reverse time and allow its possessor to rule the world.

Doug Miro & Carlo Bernard, Jordan Mechner and Boaz Yakin wrote the script, which is based on the many games created by Jordan Mechner.

Bruckheimer is producing, while Mike Stenson, Chad Oman and Patrick McCormick are exec producing."

Production is set to start in July.

Future game
In their third quarter (2007-2008) sales document, Ubisoft stated: "The 2008-09 line-up will include notably the following key titles: [...] Prince of Persia". No more information has been released. Earlier screenshots supposedly leaked for a game called Ghosts of the Past. Before that, concept art for a number of games, including Prince of Persia material was leaked from one of Ubisoft's internal servers.


Prince of Persia film
A Prince of Persia film, loosely based on the The Sands of Time storyline, is being made. The script was written by Jordan Mechner, the creator of the Prince of Persia franchise, and was later revised by Jeff Nachmanoff, Boaz Yakin, Doug Miro, and Carlo Bernard. The script tells a story similar to that of the original Sands of Time, but has been adapted to better fit the medium of film. The film will be directed by Mike Newell and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. Disney is in charge of distribution and owns the film rights for the Prince of Persia IP. The cast has yet to be revealed. Though, a few pieces of concept art have been released.

An early script was reportedly reviewed by two individual sites, but the authenticity of this script has not been confirmed. It has also been speculated that the film will feature parkour scenes. The film was to be released July 10, 2009, but the 2007–2008 Writers Guild of America strike is causing delays.

One Warrior, Two Souls.
The story The Prince of Persia makes his way home to Babylon, bearing with him Kaileena, the enigmatic Empress of Time, and unspeakable scars from the Island of Time. But instead of the peace he longs for, he finds his kingdom ravaged by war and Kaileena the target of a brutal plot. When she is kidnapped, the prince tracks her down to the palace- only to see her murdered by a powerful enemy. Her death unleashes the sands of Time, which strike the prince and threaten to destory everything he holds dear. Cast to the streets, hunted as a fugitive, the prince soon discovers that the Sands have tainted him, too. They have given rise to a deadly Dark Prince, whose spirit gradually possesses him....

The prince:
BACKGROUND: The prince is back from the Island of Time, where he prevented the creation of the Sands of Time.
PERSONALITY: An epic hero fulfills his destiny. Throughout the game, he will grow as a person and learn compassion, sacrifice, honor and restraint.
OBJECTIVES: Free his city from an evil invader and eventually save his citizens.

The Dark Prince:
BACKGROUND: The prince is exposed to the sands of time in the start of The Two Thrones and the corruption gives rise to a new dark personality in the prince, which gradually possesses him. The dark prince becomes stronger and stronger throughout the game and takes over the prince's body at different parts of the game.
PERSONALITY: He is a personification of all the prince's dark traits: ruthless, reckless violent and selfish.
OBJECTIVES: Revenge against his enemies and increase his power over the prince.

Kaileena:
In Warrior Within, the Prince met Kaileena,the Empress of Time. They left the Island of Time together and headed back to Babylon. However, Kaileena is soon captured a\nd killed by an evil enemy. Since she embodies the Sands of Time, the Sands were once again released and caused devastation among many. But given her supernatural nature, Kaileena never completely disappears. She continues to stay with us throughout the story as a narrator.

Farah:
BACKGROUND: Its been 7 years since the Farah we know of The Sands of Time. She has grown during these years and has come to Babylon against her will. However because of the events in The Sands of Time never happened(the prince rewinded the time at the end), the Prince has tremendous emotional bond to Farah but she does not recognize him at all.
PERSONALITY: Compassionate, quick-witted and strong; also more mature than the Farah we know from The Sands of Time.
OBJECTIVE: She seeks to take revenge against the evil that has taken her to Babylon and that subsequently occupied the city. However, her compassionate nature often leads her to safe the suffering citizens first.

The story
The story begins a few years after the conclusion of The Sands of Time. The prince has returned home to Babylon, to find himself hunted by a supernatural creature bent on his destruction. Forced to live a life on the run, he seeks counsel from an old mystic, who explains that his actions have spawned an immortal incarnation of fate, known as the Dahaka. In his quest to save the Sultan's palace from destruction, the Prince created a rift in the Timeline.
Hunted by the Dahaka, the Prince embarks upon a path of both carnage and mystery to defy his preordained death. He quickly comes to realize that there's only one possible way to stay alive: journey to the birthplace of the sands of time, find a way to travel back into the past and stop the Sands from being created. Without the Sands, the Prince's last adventure will not occur and the Dahaka will vanish. His journey leads him to the infernal core of a cursed island stronghold harboring mankind's greatest fears.

Characters

The Prince:
Chased by the creature created from the Timeline, the Prince seeks to destory the Sands of time and change his fate once and for all.

Kaileena:
When the Prince first meets Kaileena, she appears a helpless servant of the Empress. The Prince saves Kaileena from Shahdee and to repay the debt, Kaileena assists the Prince, telling him how to access the Castle's central chamber and prevent the creation of the Sands of Time.

Shahdee:
A trusted subordinate of the Empress of Time, Shahdee is charged with ensuring the Prince does'nt reach the Island of Time. She will do everything in her power to destroy him, knowing that the vengeful Empress will kill her if she fails to eliminate the Prince.

The Dahaka:
A massive, mythical creature created by the Prince's disruption of the Timeline. It was created with a single purpose: ending the Prince's life as quickly as possible. The Dahaka is a monster too hideous even to imagine. It travels through our reality immersed in an empty, black void. As it approaches, the ground trembles as walls, earth and the unsuspecting bystanders are forever pulled into the gaping emptiness, never to return. It couldn't be clearer that this beast is not from this world.

The Old Man:
When the Prince realizes an unstoppable monster is pursuing him, he turns to an old mentor and father figure. Living in a tent somewhere deep in Babylon, this Old mystic seems to be in touch with knowledge and understanding far deeper than any human should possess. The Old Man's words and wisdom will carry us through the Prince's entire adventure.

The Empress of Time:
While the Empress of Time is mortal and by all outward appearances seems to be a beautiful woman, she is certainly not human. She was made eons ago by the Gods, an unwitting byproduct of the creation of the Timeline. She carries part of the Timeline with her and as a result is incredibly powerful. While she exists only in the past, she commands a virtually unstoppable army of sand monsters in the present as well. When the Old Man Warns the prince about the Island of Time, he is most vocal about the Empress. She is matchless in her cunning and her strength, and completely without mercy.

The Prince:
The Prince is a natural athlete, trained in swordplay and acrobatics by the most elite masters. Confident yet inexperienced, his appetite for battle is whetted when he helps defeat the Maharajah. After he releases the sands of time, However, he must fight for survival-not glory.

Farah:
Farah is the daughter of the defeated Maharajah. Brought to Persia as a slave, she helps the prince only so she can regain the sacred dagger. She is a skilled archer and fights bravely, giving the prince advice along the way, However, he does not know whether to trust her or not.

The Vizier:
A skilled sorcerer and ruthless schemer, he covets the hourglass and dagger, which have the power to turn their possessor into an immortal god. He commands a demon horde against the Prince, whos thwarted his plans for power by looting the sacred dagger.
