| Is This Music? "This five track mini-album is, without a doubt, one of the finest things I have heard all year. Imagine Sigur Ros, John Martyn and Squarepusher recording an album together. Imagine that the result was as beautiful as Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space. These five tracks are nothing less than an utterly bewitching mixture of folk and electronica (folk-tronica? Oh, whatever) that deserved to be heard by everyone. To listen to this is to be reminded why Durutti Column and Boards Of Canada deserve to be more popular., and to know that this is something that is special and deserved to be treasured. Including recent download only single ‘Panic Attack’ Commander Keen will hopefully be massive. 5 stars " Tasty Fanzine "Despite being the brain child of a singular Glaswegian, Stuart Torrance, Commander Keen commandeers some fine guest musicians to play the beguiling selection of strings, brass and other traditional parts on this most atmospheric of mini-albums. Full of abstract whirrings and clicks, it takes the cinematic qualities of Sonver and combines them with a more earthy Scottish folk ethic. This is also reminiscent of the sort of stuff cropping up in Leeds quite a lot at the moment - Vessels, Alt track etc. 'She Dances' provides a fittingly regal end to this release with its unfolding harmonium part and increasingly urgent synths. Blissful. SB" Die Shellsuit "I shall direct you to my previous review of Commander Keen to give a sense of what you can expect from this release. I do not particularly feel like repeating what I said in it so this whilst feeling a little disjointed is only intended as an appendix if you will to what has gone before. Commander Keen are a wonderfully ambient Scottish group, an Adem like band if you will, but with less focus of vocals and more on the instrumental. Tracks that appear here as new delights is, the wonderfully sparse and almost rough sounding ‘My Tascam Dreams’ which leads almost perfectly into the thing of beauty that is ‘If I Thought You Heard This’. ‘You Know the Words’ could be described in any number of flowery similes or metaphors, I’ll try and avoid the cliques by simply leaving it at staggeringly serene. Also ironically enough it contains very little on lyrical front. Hurrah, we do indeed know all the words! Every bit of the track though has been carefully contextualised and layered to create some ethereal world of peace. So two is ‘She Dances’ which almost becomes glitch electronica with it controlled drumming and shift in tempo. There isn’t really much more to be said, if you’re a fan of electronica, instrumental, or music composition in general then you need Commander Keen in your life, both enchanting and bewildering, it provokes all sorts of thought.” 9 on 10 | |||

| download single. | 896 giorni fa | ||
| Hi all you rockin rockers. the download singles been out for a wee while, its available on itunes, e-music and the hackpen store, which can be found on www.hackpenrecords.com and www.commanderkeen.co.uk. heres a review from t'interweb; "For some reason, folk lends it's self to electronica. It may be the way the music builds, it might be that the synth is just a hurdy gurdy in a box. Whatever the reason, Commander Keen seems to have found the right balance. Tidal seascapes sweep majestically in and out of this single. Storm surges and swirling eddys flow and recede, giving "My Tascam Dreams" an ethereal other world feel that wouldn't be out of place in an Orcadion sea cave. This is music to experience and there's an album due later in the year." - http://www.fatea-records.co.uk/magaz... love to all, ckstuart xxxxxxxxxx | |||

| Hello, how are you all? answers on a postcard please. (or a bebo comment, the music page is a bit blank since its redesignage. Releases well, the ep is away for mastering, its gonna be called "My Tascam Dreams" the track listing is as follows: 1. Panic Attack 2. My Tascam Dreams 3. I Thought If You Heard This (Alternate Version) 4. You Know The Words... 5. She Dances (Original Instrumental Version) Its about 22 minutes long. fact. Pre-Release Two of the tracks are going out for download early, these tracks are "Panic Attack" and "I Thought If You Heard This (Alternate Version)". These should be out by the end of May, I will keep you posted. Album Im currently working on the album, which should be out later this year. I can tell you a few things, its going to be at least 8 tracks long, and its going to contain some rerecordings of: - "She Dances" (the long slow version which we play live with the tascam an all that) - "Lying in the dark" (hopefully extended into a full song) - the full version of "I Thought If You Heard This" - the ukulele song we play at the end of sets, with a big freakoff intro - that daft "take care at traffic lights song (look out for ambient pish on wheels) - a REALLY old song from the acoustic days(cringe) redone in full post rock glory. and many more new tracks which may or may not include the following: - walking home from the arches (more uke and recorder and stuff) - Whats a bushel? (thats a working title, it sounds a bit like the end of the world, we play it live) - an older song called harmonics, which is a little techno ish, i dont know if il put it on the album, if not il put it up online for free download) - im working on some new uke based stuff the now, i dont know whats gonna pass (lack of) quality standards. i think thats it, theres probs more stuff i should talk about. come on the 17th to the 13th note. lots of love s dot xxxxxxxxxxxxx | |||
