| So yesterday I improtu-ly decided to record an acoustic rendition of a song by Sonic Youth. As far as I know, it is probably their only "rap" song. By golly it feels good to say these lyrics out loud. OH YEAH BY THE WAY DO TAKE NOTE THAT THIS SONG HAS EXPLICIT LYRICS JUST IN CASE YOUR MUMMY OVERHEARS YOU LISTENING TO NAUGHTY WORDS. | So I thought it would take forever to remix AAAAAetc, but I was wrong. It is now taking me forver to convert everything to a nice stable format that doesn't have a horrible bit rate so i can upload it again to here, and to Facebook, which I long ago realised is the hip new place to tell the whole world about yourself. | ||||

| No guitar, and now no 4-track | hace 214 días | ||

| So now I'm at the Gold Coast now with my aunt and uncle. Until recently I still had my 4-track recorder. But I don't have a guitar. I can't even find any cheap guitars that you would give to a five year old kid learning to play. Wtf... I had to throw out my 4-track, useful as it was, it just kept on having too many mechanical breakdowns, I would have to constantly open it up and tweak something to get it going... what a pain in the ass. It's not too much of a loss seeing that I have nothing to play with, not even a toy keyboard. That gives me an idea... Meantime, I've been writing a few lyrics. It's been a while since I've had so much focus on them, normally I would write down something whenever it comes to me, or if I think of something and remember it I'll write it down later. But as the weather has been absolutely terrible for the last few days, I would usually have nothing to do, so I would sit in my room for some time, often spending an hour trying to think of how to put words together for one line. | So I don't know if you guys know, but I'm in Australia at the moment, being a helpful boy for my God-mother who is running a motel in a town called Broken Hill. I brought my 4-track tape recorder, but haven't used it until recently. I've been dabbling about with the guitar since arriving here and I've just recently been piecing together a song. I have some big plans for this, which involves lots of overdubbing. Unfortunately there's only so much overdubbing you can do with a 4-track recorder of which only has three functioning, recordable tracks, so I may have to wait 'til I get home before this song can become more fully realised. The song is called "Good," and it sounds a little like that slowww section of "Vinegar" but much faster and a bit similar to that ascending section in "Honeycomb" (maybe a little too similar?) | ||||

| I'm working on and off, on a song called "Asbestos". So far I think that if anyone says they like it, they are filthy liars. Others would probably say it sounds boring. I'm trying to make it appeal to both kinds of people who liked fucked-up-non-music and people who like proper music-music. It's quite fun to play around with. | ||||

| As it stands now, I've got a small amount of songs together, all they need is recording, re-recording, re-mastering, etc. Then perhaps maybe I could distribute some kind of self-released short demo/EP CD thing? What do you think? And who are "you"? I don't think anyone reads these blogs, as I often complain unheard about. At the moment, I am recording another song, it is part one of a three part "suite". The second part has yet to be recorded, and the third part is a slightly different version of IXIII. Rough versions of this songs are available for your displeasure in the video box and the playlist of this page. The first song, which I think I shall call "Overture", in my opinion sounds VERY crisp and cleanly recorded. Those of you (such as my sister) who flattered me with praise of the production quality should be very impressed by this one. Stay tuned. Julian. | ||||

| Some experiments I have been doing or thinking about doing: •Play with a violin/cello bow on the guitar strings •Tune all the strings on a semi-acoustic guitar to the same note, and then put it in front of an amp. The strings will resonate and drone off the feedback, like a sitar. •Similar to previous experiment, but requires two amps. Have two amps. Microphone is plugged into amp 1. Semi-acoustic guitar is plugged into amp 2. The semi acoustic guitar is sitting in front of amp 1, when I sing into the microphone, the strings will resonate, but not as much as the last experiment because it isn't feeding back. It will also give the impression of singing into an acoustic guitar. | ||||
