"3 Chords - 1 Story"

| Still alive | 242 days ago | |||
| I should really set an alarm to update the news page here. The single came out last week (17th March), and I'll know how many it sold and then how much is being given to The Prostate Cancer Charity in the middle of april when figures are published. If you did buy a copy, thank you very much, if you didn't then there is still time! It's on iTunes (easy from the link on this bebo page) and Amazon. For a wee while on the opening week it was outselling the new Frank Turner album, but to be honest I have no idea what the Amazon's Sales Rank even means! Could be that no one bought a copy of Turners album on one day, and one person (either me or the wife) bouht a copy of my single. Who knows! It was something like number 4000 out of the 15,000 mp3 bundles available. Gig wise the summer is looking like it's going to be awesome! There's a few festivals I'm booked for, including Lexapalooza in London for Breast Cancer Campaign and Rebellion in Blackpool (Whose headlines include The King Blues, Flogging Molly and Goldie Looking Chain). These will be awesome. My next Glasgow gig is Saturday night (4th April) at Nice'n'Sleazys supporting the legend that is Jonah Matranga. There's a small number of tickets still available, so feel free to come along. There was something else that I was gonna write about, but I've totally forgotten. Dave | ||||

| Didn't think we'd need any more help, but people let people down. | 272 days ago | |||
| Anyways, Folk may know that I'm supposed to be going out on Tour with Roscoe Vacant next week. It was supposed to start on Tuesday 3rd of March at The Paisley Arts Centre. Although, we've just got word now that the gig is cancelled. So..... I'm asking, nay pleading, hoping: Can anyone help us out with a show in Scotland on this date? Perhaps a house show to you and your mates? Where we can pass the hat or something to try and get some funds to make our gig in York the next day? That would be really awesome if anyone could help. We're not looking for anything grand. just a place to play our songs to you and your mates. Please get in touch, or repost or something Dave | ||||

March 2009 is Prostate Cancer Awareness month. http://www.prostate-cancer.org.uk Prostate cancer affects almost as many men as breast cancer affects women. There are 35,000 men diagnosed every year with prostate cancer compared to 44,000 women with breast cancer. 10,000 men die of prostate cancer every year; just over 12,000 women die of breast cancer each year. "The sinner and the saints" is a cautionary tale of the change in American politics as seen from the viewpoint of someone who lived through Blair's "things can only get better" win in '97 and subsequent aftermath. The track features Canadian sessionist Moritz Behm with a dual-violin attack. | An update for Bebo type followers | 377 days ago | |||
| Heya, I have to admit, I almost totally forgot that I had this page on Bebo. The last time I updated was around the end of August. So here's a wee recap of what's been going on: 1. The tour with Al Baker: Very good. Played 13 dates over 12 nights from Perth to Brighton, met lots of really nice folk and got cabin fever. Judith Harron joined us for the Scottish leg, and then we headed south. My brother Dan was on Mandolin during my sets and Al on Bodhran, it was immense. Played a killer show at Nambucca with Frank Turner and Chris TT to name a few, it was awesome. You can see footage of the Glasgow date at WhatsUrMusic for an idea of how my gigs go these days. http://www.whatsurmusic.com/Site/Vid... 2. Oxjam I played quite a few shows for Oxjam over Septeber/October including one at te Trans-Europe which raised £60 and then one on Ashton Lanes in Jinty MyGinties as part of an all dayer that raised £1600. 3. New album and recordings I've been demoing lots of songs for the next release, thinking of end of January at the earliest. I was in talks with an indie label from down south but they seem to have disapeared, so it will probably be self-released as usual. Keep an ear open for Dancing Two-Step on a charity album getting released in the new year which will apparently have a big PR push behind it, we'll be shooting a video soon for it. 4. Support slots Last night I supported the great Fake Problems (Florida punk rock on Against Me's label). In the coming months I'm supporting Apologies, I have none, Louis Barabbas, Bomb the Music Industry, Mike Scott (Phinius Gage) and Dave McPherson (InMe). All dates are up at www.myspace.com/davehughesmusic 5. An open invitation On a more personal note, for a good while now I've been totally enjoying what I do musically. The gigs in Glasgow have been getting better and better with each one, the singing along, the dancing, the cheering, the requests. I wish I could share it with you. So, please, have a wee look at the gig dates on the page and consider coming along. I promise that you won't regret it (just watch the WhatsUrMusic clip for an idea). One thing I'm trying to do as I go along this 'adventure/murder mystery tour' is to keep my friends involved, whether it's them singing or playing bodhran on stage with me, or just attending shows with a smile on their face, so long as they are there I'd love it if you could join us. | Oxjam ashton lanes, glasgow!!!! | 409 days ago | |||
| Heya, Thought I'd write a wee bulletin to let you know of a charity gig I'm doing a week on Sunday. It's part of the Oxjam on ashton lanes festival in Glasgow. It runs from 2pm till 1am on the 26th of October, which is as Sunday night. Judith Harron will be appearing with me which, I'm delighted to say, is becoming almost the norm! Please consider coming along, even if it's going to be a tube and train ride for you, the West end isn't that far away and it's all for a good cause. The last gig I did for Oxjam (at the Trans-Europe Cafe a few weeks ago) raised over £60, and I'd love to get near to that again. Oh, as part of the festival I'll be playing at Jinty McGintys at 8. 45pm. However, there are lots of great acts on over the course of the day, like El Bastardos and Loose Lips Sink Ships. I think that Luisa Menoni and also Eve Bulloch may be playing, so it's going to be awesome. Aye, drop me a wee message if you are coming along. I'll be in the States till a week Wednesday, so it would be nice to hear that I'll recognise some faces at the gig! Also, I'm playing Paisley Arts Centre tomorrow night and the Pitlochry Music Festival on the 25th of October (again with Jud ).See you there? Dave | ||||

| Mandolin / folky instruments! | 438 days ago | |||
| Heya, The last couple of weeks I'd been playing my songs with a small folk band backing me up, and as a result, I wanna try and get some Glasgow / Paisley /Greenock based folk together to carry on playing the songs. So, firstly I am looking for a mandolin player who can improvise well. Then I'd love to add some other types of instruments such as violins, tin whistles, accordians, pianos, perhaps a bassist, a full drum kit? Hell, I could just keep going. I guess I'm looking for those over 18 years old. Gender not important at all. I'm wanting to do a tour at somepoint in the new year with it, UK and Europe; and also to record for a label that I'm in talks with. So yeah, if you can play a 'folk' instrument, get in touch via here on PM or email me at dave -at- davehughesmusic.co.uk Dave | ||||

| Finally stepped through my house's door at 10pm last night after 12 hours of driving home from the tour. The tour was awesome, and I don't mean awesome in the "3 people showed up but it was still great inside my head" type way, I mean utterly great! We literally and honestly didn't have a bad gig which in itself is an achievement. I want to thank Al Baker for doing the tour with me, and my brother Dan for playing mandolin each night. I'll write up a proper tour 'thank you' later tonight, and try and get some of the footage put together for you to see the highs and lows Lexapalooza was fucking awesome! Having Frank Turner introduce me, and then sing along with Daddy fought the law was probably one of the high points of my music career so far. I've got a recording of it, but it's really bad quality, if you want to hear it let me know and I'll try clean it up. There's a few gigs in and around Glasgow coming up in the next few months, one with Fake Problems and Tragical History Tour which will be brilliant. I'd love to play with a band for that one, so if anyone can play mandolin (or any folk-instrument) get in touch! Hope everyone is doing well. Hello to the new friends who've appeared over the last week Keep in touch, Dave | ||||
