| We’re delighted to report back that last Saturday 25th July Angeline, Reg, and Trevor completed the epic Alpine Marathon Challenge and beaming with pride crossed the finish line in Davos to the applause of family and friends! From the awe inspiring scenery of the Alps to the unforgiving uphill runs, the grueling Alpine challenge was an incredible experience for our 3 challengers. Full of pre-race nerves and excitement with no idea what to expect, the guys set off from the start line surrounded by runners from around the world. After months of intensive preparation with trainer Hannah Shields, running the Alpine course was the ultimate test for our challengers as they competed in the biggest mountain ultramarathon in the world. With 21 km of the race on high alpine terrain and part of the trail at an altitude of 2,600 metres the guys really had to practice everything they had learned in training in order to make it across the finish line. As Trev summed it up for us “The run itself was tough going. We paced ourselves as much as we could, but it was hard to do that because you just didn’t know what was coming round the next corner. The scenery was amazing though, it’s really a gorgeous spot. Not a bad place to kick start your marathon career!” And it looks like the challenge has ignited a genuine passion for running amongst our challengers! Ange is talking about running the Causeway Coast Marathon this October while Trev is committed to taking part in 10km runs throughout the year and not one to do things by halves, Reg has set his sights on doing the New York City Marathon. Now that’s what you call a ‘Never Give Up’ kind of attitude! With the post race celebrations lasting throughout the week in the guys respective home towns of Laois, Down and Clare, everyone can now let their hair down and take some time to chill out… well almost everyone, our girl with the ‘can do’ attitude Angeline is one of the finalists in this year's Mary from Dungloe Festival. Best of luck Ange, we’re all behind you! So after a lot of blood, sweat and tears, not forgetting the injuries, needles and the beginning of new friendships, Angeline Sloan, Reg White and Trevor Lee have proved that anything is possible if you put your mind to it! This week saw the calm before the storm as Ange, Reg and Trev, kept training to a minimum and got some much needed rest and relaxation. From acupuncture to deep tissue massage, they focused on keeping their muscles in good shape and maintaining energy reserves for the big run. The support for the guys has been incredible with well wishes coming from family and friends at home and around the globe! As Ange says, “I kind of feel at this point I’m not just doing it for myself anymore – I’m running it for everyone else as well, everyone who has helped me along the way- because I wouldn’t have got here without them.” So, there are now great expectations upon our 3 challengers and with it comes nerves and the worry of not succeeding but as Reg tell us“… they say worry is like a rocking chair, gives you something to do but gets you nowhere!” Suffice to say we can be pretty confident that nerves won’t get the better of Reg! The only thing the guys are seriously concerned about is the big ‘A’ - that’s right folks Altitude! There’s no escaping it and at the same time they only have today and tomorrow to acclimatise themselves ahead of the big challenge! The good news is that trainer Hannah is on hand to oversee the Alpine course and ensure that the guys fully familiarise themselves in time for the big race. One thing’s for sure, there is no doubting the absolute determination of our 3 challengers, as Trev summed it up for us this week, “…I know it’s going to be a huge challenge but we haven’t come this far for nothing, so even if it means I have to crawl over that finish line –I’m gona do it!” So with the Alpine Marathon Challenge, literally hours away, all that’s left to say is best of luck guys, we’re all behind you and most of all remember to NEVER GIVE UP!! | ||||

| As the wiseman said... | 143 dni temu | |||
| From non-stop training to a total wind down for our 3 challengers, the last week has seen them ease up on the long distance running in order to give their muscles a rest ahead of the big race. Trev is still experiencing some tightness in his cavles which his physio has advised is most likely a result of over training. In order to relieve the tension, he has had to endure another unwelcome session of acupuncture. As a wiseman once said: “No pain! No gain!” With exactly a week to go Angeline Sloan, Trevor Lee and Reg White, know that taking part in the Alpine Marathon Challenge is going to be a great mental challenge as well as physical one and probably one of the biggest challenges that they will ever have to face. They our now alternating between swimming, running and cycling in an effort to give their different muscles a break and keep them in good order for the challenge in Davos. Last weekend, against the backdrop of a torrential downpour, the guys completed their last big run before the Alps. Whilst they can testify to a wealth of experience when it comes to running in rainfall, running at a high altitude, an inevitability of Davos, is an altogether different matter and no one quite knows what lies ahead. Not forgetting however, what another wise man once said, “Once you put in the training, the results will come out!” and we couldn’t agree with you more P.O.C! | ||||

| A mixed bag | 147 dni temu | |||
So it’s onwards on upwards for our three challengers as each day brings them one step closer to Davos on the 25th of July, two weeks tomorrow! Trev has been taking it handy this week after coming down with the flu. In order to ensure a full recovery trainer Hannah insisted that he take a break from training and catch-up on some much needed rest. Thankfully,Trev has bounced back in the last few days and he is running and training in the gym again. It’s been all go for Angeline, after she completed a ten mile run on Saturday and climbed Slieve Donard on Sunday. However, it was a mixed bag when it came to the weather as she puts it “… the beautiful weather at the bottom of the climb really made for some nice hiking but it got tougher as we reached the summit when the wind and rain set in.” Angeline also received some great news this week when she discovered that she was the third female home in the Mourne Way Marathon. Going into the final stages this really is an amazing boost for our only female challenger! Well done Ange! With their last long run scheduled for this weekend, time is flying by for Reg, Angeline and Trev. In these final stages of training the guys will begin to start winding down with a few short runs to keep their legs fresh. There is now a nervous excitement building in the air, as our three challengers realize that they’re almost there...but they also know that it is going to take every ounce of self-belief and determination they have to realize their goal. | The Final Countdown | 157 dni temu
| July is upon us and with it comes the final countdown to the Alpine marathon at the end of the month. With 21 days to go, Angeline, Reg and Trev are all now very aware of how close they our to the big challenge. Reg is very pleased with himself as he has been given a clean bill of health this week and is fully back on track with his training. Trainer Hannah remains confident that he has what it takes and has done enough training over the past few months to do himself justice. While been out of action was tough on Reg he has come back even more determined to reach his goal! In between three and five mile runs this week he has been also attending spinning classes in Westwood. As Reg is hitting training hard, Trev and Ange are still in recovery mode from the Mourne Way Marathon. Trev took a well deserved break last weekend and headed to Slane for the Oasis gig. Interestingly, he even managed to apply his lessons learned in training to the organisation of his trip! As he puts it “...through the Powerade involvement, preparation is everything and we decided to camp for the two nights, so missing all the problems getting in and out”. Now that’s what you call planning ahead! But it wasn’t all fun for Trev this week as he had to bite the bullet and get some acupuncture on his hamstring. So the clock is well and truly ticking for our three challengers and with the mountains calling things are getting a little scary for the guys but then again as Reg reminded us this week, there really is only one option and that’s to “Never Give Up”. | ||||

| Great news for the team this week as Reg is back on track and has returned to training in flying form. The recovery period of the last few weeks has been tough though and he has had his fair share of X Rays and MRI’s at the Santry Sports Clinic. Complete rest and reintroduction through spinning classes have really helped his recovery and this week he managed to complete six miles in the hot weather without any difficulty. Seeing Trev and Angeline complete the Mourne Marathon was a huge boost for Reg and he is now even more determined to give his all in training. Whilst he realises that he has a lot of catching up to do trainer Hannah has no doubts that he has what it takes! In an effort to cram all the training he’s missed into the next few weeks, Hannah has prepared the ultimate in gruesome training programmes for Reg –watch this space as we follow his progress! Reg was not the only one who was in flying form this week as last year’s challengers Munsterconnaught have drawn the first round of the Junior Football Champioship with Shercock. Shercock 1-7 Munterconnaught 0-10. A tough road lies ahead for the boys though, as they battle it out to progress out of what has been branded the ‘Group of Death’. So challenging times all round for both Reg and MunsterConnaught as they fight on to reach their goals! | The Mourne Way! | 171 dni temu | |||
Last Saturday saw two of our challengers face their toughest test yet with Angeline and Trev taking on the Mourne Marathon and what a day it was! Starting off together Trev and Angeline found the terrain tough going from the outset and found they were hiking as much as running. Tougher than expected Angeline dropped off Trev’s pace after about 5 miles as she wanted to conserve her energy and keep the fuel in the tanks! Her lowest spot was at about 6 miles. No fears there though, as teammate Reg and Coach Hannah were there to spur her on with a ready supply of energy bars and encouragement! Support for the guys was incredible as always and Angeline’s Mum and brother even took part in the 10k run themselves. With this in mind, Angeline was determined not to give up, as she puts it ‘the thought of letting them down was certainly enough to fire me up again!’ Trev also found support on the day from a fellow runner called Peter Ferris. He has run an impressive 328 marathons, 100 of them in less than three hours and his next challenge after this will be to do seven marathons in seven days. He was a real inspiration for Trev and kept him going for 20 miles. The last 6 miles saw things becoming increasingly challenging for Trev as he began to feel as if he was running on empty. Angeline made it past him at about 21 miles and it was only the sight of Reg and Hannah that kept him going. As Angeline made her way to the finish line she was overwhelmed with so many emotions and all she could do was cry. With this final test out of the way, the reality of what lies in store in the Alps has really set in for our challengers as well as a renewed sense of anything is possible…

| Testing Times! | 178 dni temu | |||
| One day and counting to the Mourne Way marathon and time is flying by for our three challengers as they get ready for their last big test before Switzerland. Angeline reached yet another milestone last weekend, as she got through 20 miles for the first time. Admittedly, ahead of the run she was quite nervous but feels much better now that she’s completed the full marathon distance. In fact, she felt so great afterwards she even managed to go out dancing! In preparation for tomorrow’s race she has been training up in the Mournes with Brendan, an experienced fell runner who has been helping her to build up her endurance and familiarity with the rough terrain. She has also been invited to join the organiser of the Mourne Way Marathon as he begins to lay the markers for the race. With this week’s marathon looming even closer Trev has been working with the physio on his calves. He’s also been spurred on by his former Clooney/Quin teammate’s recent win at the Clare Senior Hurling Championships and is hoping to be back on the bench with a Swiss Medal in hand in time for the next game. Good news all round with regards to injuries this week, as Reg’s foot is much better and he even managed to attend his first ever spinning class in an effort to shed a few extra pounds. Trainer Hannah’s ankle is healing nicely and she is confident of getting back to training quicker than anyone expects…watch this space! As always the guys are happy to hear from anyone who has completed the run in the past with any tips or suggestions as they begin their final few weeks of preparation for the mammoth task that awaits our team of three… https://twitter.com/remwhite http://twitter.com/angelinesloan https://twitter.com/trevlee | ||||

| Times are getting tough! | 201 dni temu | |||
| Train. Sleep. Eat. Train. Study. Work. Train. Train. Train…….. That seems to be the lives of our three challengers at the moment. Things are definitely getting tougher, with 18 mile runs and early morning training sessions. But as Paul O’Connell told the team that day in the Wicklow mountains ‘if you put in an honest effort training, you will be alright on the day’. Reg has been keeping busy. The word is out that he is training hard so when he got the call to head off to the Aran Islands to take part in a half-marathon in aid of Temple Street Children’s University hospital he jumped at the chance and one short Aer Aran flight later he was at the start line rearing to go. With the wind blowing in his face for the first 5 miles and the last mile being all uphill he was delighted with himself to finish. But then something else happened to send him into the stratosphere….Leinster beat Munster! There’s no stopping Reg now. The docklands 5 mile Fun Run was done and dusted last night. And despite having done a 16 miler the previous evening he completed the fun run in a decent time. Check out www.twitter.com/remwhite to hear more. On the other hand poor Trevor had to pick up the pieces after his beloved Muster lost out in Croke Park. And the best therapy? – get out there and do a 16 mile run. It was his longest distance yet, and he found it very tough. But Trevor is determined for Munster to win in Europe this year – even if it’s in running and not rugby – so the training must go on. Hannah has given him a new training schedule which will have him running 6 days a week. Looks like he’ll be sweating blood and tears for the next few months! Angeline said if someone had told her in February that she would be running 18 miles in one session in two months time she would have politely told them to ‘cop themselves on’. But she has. Then came her 15 mile run, followed by a 7 mile leg in the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon. Even though she wouldn’t wish her schedule on anyone she is definitely getting a kick out of achieving her training goals. And what a schedule – work 5 days a week, train 6 days a week, college 2 nights a week, exams coming up! Her advice? Manage your time- anything is possible if you set aside time and stick to it. So our challengers are in flying form. However, trainer Hannah has had a setback. While up the Mourne Mountains last weekend she dislocated her ankle and had to be carried down on a stretcher. This could have been a real blow to the team but as Angeline says, the team is much stronger now, and it’s time for them to be an inspiration to her! The Mourne Way Marathon on June 13th is fast approaching. 24 days and counting…… | ||||

| Running Up Mountains! | 227 dni temu | |||
| While our Powerade Challengers embarked on a training session up the Wicklow Mountains, they were immediately star struck when they were joined by the newly elected Lion’s Captain Paul O’ Connell. Paul joined the team for the session, encouraging them every step of the way, assuring them that an honest effort in training will prepare them for the main day. Practise Makes Perfect! Hannah Shields, ‘Mother Hen’ of the team feels all three are making very strong progress with their training. This week she comments how Ang has now moved to an more advanced training programme than the two guys, and aims to run a massive 18 miles over the weekend. While she also feels Reg has really come on in leaps and bounds, stepping out of his comfort zone to really start to put the miles in. But she remains slightly concerned about Trev’s calves, and so has not pushed him too hard just yet! However, over the weekend Trevor and a crew of 171 conquered Ireland’s highest mountain Carrantuohill. Congrats Trev! https://twitter.com/remwhite http://twitter.com/angelinesloan https://twitter.com/trevlee | ||||
