Wispa was a chocolate bar made by Cadbury for the U.K. and Ireland market. It was first introduced in 1981, seen as a competitor to Nestle's Aero.

Wispa took the UK market by storm after its launch, but the product was discontinued some years later when Cadbury's cited production problems with its innovative production technique (thought to be bars breaking on the production line); the discontinuation was a national story and made it onto the BBC's 6 o'clock news.

Wispa came back to the market some years later with a slightly different formulation. The Wispa brand was finally discontinued permanently in 2003, when the product was placed under the Dairy Milk brand and renamed Dairy Milk Bubbly.

Subtypes of this bar included Wispa Gold (caramel filling), Wispa Bite (caramel and biscuit filling), Wispaccino (coffee filling) and Wispa Mint (mint layer).

Relaunch
Since 2003 several campaigns to bring back the Wispa bar slowly built up momentum, one of which, culminated in a stage invasion during Iggy Pop's 2007 performance at Glastonbury. Fans invaded the stage, some armed with a banner saying "Bring Back Wispa". In addition, several "Bring Back Wispa" groups on Bebo, MySpace and Facebook were set up.

In August 2007, this campaign prompted Cadbury to announce that the bar will relaunched in October 2007 for an initial limited period, with a permanent return possible if sales are high enough. Members of one of the largest campaigns were also chosen as the official spokespersons of the campaign - Joy Allen, Louise Cremin and Emily Hughes from the bebo group http://welikewispa.bebo.com from Cork, Ireland. The remaining two members are highly active in the ongoing campaign to reinstate the Wispa brand fully with the eventual re-introduction of all Wispa related products.

Wispa's Coming Back!!!!887 dni temu

Cadbury Schweppes is axing support for family favourites brands, including Maynards, Bassetts and Trebor, as it consolidates its £250m global adverting budget across 13 brands. The move is part of a major restructure of the company, including 7500 job cuts and factory closures.

The company plans to focus on five of the 13 key brands –†Green & Black’s, Trident, Cadbury, Halls and The Natural Confectionery Company –†and is expected to cull a number of smaller brands. The strategy comes under Cadbury’s new policy statement “fewer, faster, bigger, better”.

A Cadbury spokeswoman says the strategy means that the company will focus investment on brands that will provide “proportionate value”.

But, in a move that appears to go against its new strategy, the confectionery giant is planning to reintroduce Wispa, which was axed four years ago, for a limited period at the end of the year. It will receive £1m in marketing support, which is expected to include TV.

One industry insider says the company hopes that bringing back Wispa will help to generate a bit of “Cadbury nostalgia”. He adds that the company is struggling to “shift volume” this year and has stopped promoting its products after many independent retailers refused to increase prices.

The new strategy, which was announced on June 19, has already led to the departure of UK managing
director Simon Baldry, who will leave the company along with nine other senior executives. It is not clear how the cuts will affect the UK marketing team.

Cadbury chief executive Todd Stitzer also confirmed that the company is planning to sell its US beverage division, rather than demerge it. It then plans to drop the Schweppes brand from its name.

Wispa was a chocolate bar made by Cadbury for the U.K. and Ireland market. It was similar to Aero, but the bubbles were smaller, giving it a velvety, "textured" feel. It was first introduced in 1981, and it came in a distinctive blue package with red letters.

Wispa took the UK market by storm after its launch, but the product was discontinued some years later when Cadbury's cited production problems with its innovative production technique (thought to be bars breaking on the production line) - the discontinuation was a national story and made it onto the BBC's 6 o'clock news.

Wispa came back to the market some years later with a slightly different formulation (which some said was not quite as nice), but presumably was more reliable to produce.

Subtypes of this bar included Wispa Gold (caramel filling), Wispa Bite (caramel and biscuit filling), Wispaccino (coffee filling) and Wispa Mint (mint layer).

The Wispa brand was discontinued by Cadbury in 2003 when the product was renamed Dairy Milk Bubbly to capitalise on the brand equity in Dairy Milk.

Many Wispa fans have complained that the dairy milk bubbly is not as nice as the original Wispa and as a result have turned from the dairy milk brand products.
