| Indefinite Hiatus - but new EP still to come | Il y a 248 jours | |||
| So our last gig with Dan was last month, and we had originally planned to soldier on, for the next few months at least, with a new drummer. However we have since decided to call it a day for the time being. Due to other commitments, people wishing to travel etc. Jack of Speed will be on an indefinite hiatus. It is extremely unlikely we will be playing any more gigs for the rest of 2009 at least. We're not sure when we'll be back, and it could possibly be permanent, the truth is we really don't know. It's not all bad news though, we are currently putting the finishing touches on the 5 tracks we recorded last month in Fastlane Studios. We will be releasing this as our second EP, through a free download service and possibly some kind of limited physical release too. We'll post up more info on that when we decide exactly what we're doing with it. We also hope to go back to Fastlane Studios in the summer to finish the recording of 3 songs which did not make it on to the new EP. We'll throw these up online as well for free download. So a big thanks to everybody who made it to our various gigs over the past 2-3 years, and to everyone who bought or downloaded our first EP 'Take Your Pick'. Be sure to keep checking the page for info on our next EP. Hopefully we'll see you again at a Jack of Speed gig a few years down the line. Possibly in 2021 when we're all approaching 40, fat, balding, and settled down with a mortgate. Until then thanks to everyone for their support. Jack of Speed. | ||||

| Hotpress Pick of the Fortnight + Studiobound | Il y a 328 jours | |||
| Well we've been waiting a while to hear what Hotpress thought of the EP ever since sending it to them 3 months back. The verdict is finally in, and they've decided to make it their First Cuts pick of the fortnight. This will be in the issue published on Thursday January 15th. The Hotpress First Cuts pick of the fortnight is generously supported by many radio stations throughout the country, so don't be surprised to hear us on stations such as Cork's Red FM, Limerick's Live 95, BBC Radio Foyle, and many others. Many thanks to Hotpress for that. Also we're heading back to the studio in February to record our 2nd 5-track EP. Our first EP was received with great response across the board (gaining Phantom FM's Icon Show demo of the week as well as praise from Hotpress and others) which was a massive boost to us as we've only ever really had feedback from immediate friends and family who, lets face it, have to love us no matter what. So in light of that, we're really excited about this recording as we have some pretty stomping new material which is just itching to be put down. We recorded some guide tracks ourselves to save time so we're hoping to really get loads out of this session. | ||||

| Take Your Pick - Phantom demo of the week | Il y a 401 jours | |||
| So the first piece of media/press feedback is in... and it's good!! We were made demo of the week on Phantom's Irish music show Icon for last week, and they played Fallout. Unfortunately none of us managed to catch the show, so if anybody heard it and knows what was said about the EP, feel free to let us know. It's both a bit of a relief and really encouraging for the first piece of feedback to be so positive, after all the hard work and money we've pumped into the project. Thanks a million phantom!! Also the remaining 3 songs from the EP will be up on our myspace/bebo/facebook etc. for you to listen to from this Saturday, in anticipation of the release the EP the following Saturday, November 8th. Be sure not to miss the launch gig that night in the Boom Boom Room! | ||||

| EP Release - November 8th | Il y a 427 jours | |||
| Well it's been a bit of a slow process, but we're finally getting there. We finished recording the EP back on July 20th. Since then we've had to settle on a final mix, decide on a name, design the artwork, organise a photoshoot, arrange a launch gig, and much much more. Now that the majority of the work is out of the way, we are delighted to announce that our debut EP, titled 'Take Your Pick', will be released on November 8th. Giving us just enough time to put the finishing touches on the release. The best place to get your hands on a copy of the CD, would be to come along to our launch gig, in the Boom Boom Room on O'Connell Street, on Saturday November 8th. It will be €6 in or €10 with a CD. So basically you're getting it for €4. It should be a great night so we hope to see you there. It should also be on sale in Tower Records for €5, but that is yet to be confirmed. Thanks to everybody who made it out to our recent gigs in Eamonn Dorans, and the Village. I'm told we sounded well. Keep checking the bebo/myspace for updates. Our official site www.jackofspeed.net will also be relaunched to coincide with the EP release. We have a few dates coming up between now and the launch gig, but if you can only make it to one of them then please make sure you're at the launch gig on November 8th. It's a Saturday night, you've no excuse!! Jack of Speed. | ||||

| EP Recording | Il y a 547 jours | |||
| So we've actually gone ahead and booked some time in a studio. We'll be recording our debut EP from July 17th - 20th in Fastlane studios in Donabate. It should up online not too long after that. Currently we're planning on recording Fallout (again), Chasing Alibis, Capo Song, Japanese Tier, and a new untitled song. Also Mike and Ali will be playing a song on balcony tv, hopefully at some stage this month. | ||||

| Update | Il y a 568 jours | |||
| Right, in case anbody actually reads this page, I thought I'd give a quick update. Mike's hand is finally better, and we had our first practice in over 3 months a week or so back. It sounded surprisingly good considering we hadn't played in so long, but that may be because we all had new amps to play with (they all rock). The plan for the summer is to record an EP. We tried doing it ourselves but the home recordings weren't really up scratch. We'll try one more time with Clem in charge, but if that doesn't work out it'll be time to hit the studio again. We''ll most likely be using the previously recorded version of Fall Out with a few touch ups, a newly recorded version of Chasing Alibis, and 3 other new songs. We've just finished writing a new, as of yet untitled song, for the EP; which I think is one of our best to date. Almost finished another new one which could also feature. We're planning on getting the EP pressed, and selling it at gigs and through our website. We might organise some kind of pay for download service through the website too (don't worry, it won't cost much). You'll be able to stream at least some of the songs through our website or our bebo/myspace/facebook anyway. Apart from that, we just plan on finishing a lot of new songs, and playing the odd gig throughout the summer to get us warmed up. Once the EP is out, we should be gigging a lot more regularly. We're really excited about the new material we have, and the EP release. It should really be a busy enough period for us once it's all done. Jack of Speed. | ||||

| A Setback | Il y a 643 jours | |||
| We've been pretty unlucky recently. We went on a snowboarding trip to Austria with the band and a few of the ladies and Mike managed to fracture his wrist on the last 30 seconds on the last slope of the trip. He is now in a cast for 3 months which means at least 3 months without gigging. We're going to try and continue recording and get Ali to play Mikes parts so hopefully it wont be 3 months down the drain. Watch this space for updates! | ||||

| Chasing Alibis!!! | Il y a 667 jours | |||
| So we finally finished the first of our home recordings, Chasing Alibis (Allibies/allabies... the proper spelling is a tad weird I think). Recorded between October 2007 and January 2008 in Gaffbhala. While not being of the standard of the recordings we made in Ashtown studios, I still think the quality is quite good for a home recording. If one of us actually knew anything about sound engineering it might have turned out perfect. We may remaster it at some stage in the next few weeks but the version up there is pretty much the finished article. We should be recording some more material in Gaffbhala soon, only this time we should get it finished it a matter of weeks, not months. | ||||

| Djyeah? Deadly! | Il y a 735 jours | |||
| So there you go, 2 new songs uploaded. Recorded in Ashtown Studios on November 17th. Enjoy. We're sorry if Dan's video offended you. We're also aware the names of our songs are shit. Deal with it. | ||||

| Studio | Il y a 751 jours | |||
| We're hitting the studio on Saturday, so we should actually have some tracks to stick up online after we're done. Our home recordings kinda never got finished, we should really get around to doing that. We're doing a new version of fallout and a song we play sometimes, but haven't done in the last while. | ||||
