Hallowe'en Gig25 giorni fa

Good party, good night. Played two sets - acoustic and slower electric numbers (including one new, Wherever Days Go), and then a fast electric set (debuting Bean's great song All Washed Up), plus three covers - Strange Brew, Jumping Jack Flash and Ghostbusters (of course!).

Some people really getting into it right from the start, and dancing on the last few songs. We all really enjoyed it - very tight performance. I was playing bass so hard that "I've got blisters on my fingers".

Cheers all.

The band played an informal set of five songs for some guests from Israel on Tuesday night, James performing new song WHEREVER DAYS GO solo, followed by the band playing WHICH SONG IS OUR SONG? Another new one was next, Alastair's PUNCH ABOVE MY WEIGHT, with requested songs JUST A BUD and HOUSE ON SAND finishing it all off.

Learning To Get Out Of My Skin265 giorni fa

Here's the latest from Ether City - Learning To Get Out Of My Skin, with a chorus that encourages you to do just that. Check out Mayes's wah soloing. And also his vocal on Which Song Is Our Song! The new trio is rounded off by Harpers Cameo, which in a change of pace from the rock is a kind of Music Hall, Art School pop number. Three new songs from Ether City; the second group of three this year. And it's not even mid-March.

Just A Bud286 giorni fa

The new single by Ether City is out, ready for download. Sung by Bean, it's one of his best yet, with beautiful playing by all the band.

Just A Bud's two sidekicks are Ready For Round Twelve and Why We Were Men. All three showcase a band kicking against stereotypes and bringing in new influences and styles. Settle down to Just A Bud, then jump up for Round Twelve. Gorgeous solos by Mayes, trumpets, and groove courtesy of Messrs. Culleton and Casey. The band have never sounded better.

Merry Christmas from Ether City336 giorni fa

James, Bean, Captain and Mayes would like to wish you all a very merry Christmas and all the best for 2009. They'd also like to thank all who downloaded Bad Streets (and Afterthought); they're enjoying the feedback.

Expect more songs in January (they're still arguing over which one to put out next) and much more besides. It's Mayes's birthday that month so everyone's busy.

Happy Christmas!

Bad Streets342 giorni fa

Ether City today (Friday December 19th) release a new song, 'Bad Streets', a punchy, fast rocker with James on lead vocals. Is Mayes on lead guitar or is Captain on lead drums? Sometimes it's difficult to tell these days, but what is certain is this band works as a strong team and the result is always greater than the sum of its parts.

Bad Streets is backed with B-side 'Afterthought', sung by Bean, over on www.ethercity.co.uk - more songs are always available in the band newsletter, so sign up over on the website.

Ether City's first gig venue to close360 giorni fa

Confirmation this morning that the London Metro will be closing down due to the expansion of adjacent Tottenham Court Road Underground station as part of the Crossrail project.

The Metro Club hosted gigs by bands like Kings of Leon and Scissor Sisters, and was the first venue played by Ether City on Wednesday 3rd January, 2007. James' report on that gig, written a few days later, can be found here. One of the largest venues on the unsigned circuit, the club was a dedicated music venue.

The final gig at the Metro will be on January 17th.

If you've not signed up to the band mailing list, now would be a good time. The final mail-out of the year is not far off now, and will include links to three new recordings by Ether City. We can't guarantee that any of them will be appearing for general download available to all on the band website, so sign up at www.ethercity.co.uk and get them while you can.
