Acoustic show announced432 days ago

We're going to bare our souls by playing our first ever acoustic set. We've been dabbling with songs at open mic nights impromptu, unannounced and unplanned but now we feel the need to share this set "publicly"...

So we've chosen the legendary Troubador venue in Earl's Court - Jimi Hendrix and Dylan played there so the walls have soul...

We're on early around 8:30 on 30th September, so if you want to hear us do our thing differently then we want there to share t with us.

One + Two is born 432 days ago

Last night was a sea-change for us. It was the first show ever where we haven't played 'A Little Short' or 'She Gives It Around'. Confidence breeds confidence so we rammed the set full of newies including 'One + Two' which we'd only written the day before.

Kudos for the chorus of "fuck the man" and setting the noise meter to red. Who dare cut a Rivers set short...

Final Hot Press clip now available508 days ago

The final clip from March's Hot Press acoustic session in Dublin is now live on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m2ZTG... . The track - which wasn't named on the day we recorded but later tentatively called 'Hard To Get...". It was something born in the hotel room after rehearsals, just the night before this was recorded.

Kooks tour - Plymouth Pavillion - May 3rd 566 days ago

With only about three hours sleep under our belts we loaded the van once more for the lengthy drive south west for the last night of the tour. Spirits were high. The journey was uneventful except for the purchase of the Daily Star to see a rave review of our set from the first night at Brixton. Arrived in Plymouth only to discover we were staying in the same hotel as The Kooks - so carnage would surely ensue later.

As was always going to be the case - our set was one of the best on the tour. The response was awesome. Post-show both we and The Kooks posed for group photos in the waste left behind in the auditorium as the crew loaded out.

Kooks tour - Brixton Academy - May 2nd 566 days ago

Rudely awoken at 11am by our manager for a meeting who'd somehow managed to drag his carcass out of bed for a 10am meeting. We scurried across town to meet with Andy Gill again - this time sober - and run him through a heap of our recordings. It was a good enlightening few hours.
Apparently last night's show couldn't have been that bad as we've heard from our publicist that there'll be a review running in the Star tomorrow, and they liked the show. Tonight was always going to be better though... Firstly, we knew what we were walking into, we were comfortable the sound would be better and the tubes were working so the crowd would be bigger. It was a much tighter set and more swaggerful. Back on track. A couple of the guys bumped into Mick Jagger backstage which kept the smiles on their faces even through a sleepless night back at the hotel where deep house played through the walls until 6am. Reluctantly parked our van on the streets of Brixton overnight after nearly being towed out of the Tesco carpark for "violating" their "conditions of parking".

Kooks tour - Brixton Academy - May 1st 566 days ago

Our interview and acoustic session on George & Jim's breakfast show was broadcast this morning on WCRFM but we were out of radio range for that one so missed it but we'll try and bring you a few tracks from it online.
For those of you who've never been, Brixton is a colourful place and full of "characters". You'll get accosted with every step and a late night food run at McDonalds feels like you've walked into a scene from Star Wars' cantina. Tonight's gig was always intended to be like any other for us - just a bigger venue. Brixton is notoriously poor sound-wise for support bands because unless the room is full, the sound bangs and echoes around that big old ceiling like a pinball. To add to our concerns, tonight we had a new sound guy so we took a longer soundcheck than normal.
The gig was tight but we didn't fire on all cylinders. As expected the crowd was smaller for us in London than the rest of the tour and this was compounded by a fault on the tube. But to those of you who sang, applauded and danced, thank you.
Aftershow Andy Gill from the legendary Gang Of Four came backstage for a chat and we then spilled from the VIP area and back to our place with old friends and some of the Kooks crew for a messy night at the hands of a reggae party on a rooftop. All bedouin tents, pipes and cushions. Most of us woke up with strangers crashed in the rooms.
