| BAND TO PERFORM AT ST ANDREWS SOCIETY EVENT Skerryvore return to the USA this month to perform at one of the oldest St Andrews’ societies in America. The Illinois St Andrews’ Society will be celebrating their 165th year and Skerryvore have been invited to perform at the special event. It will be the band’s first trip to the States since performing at the Ryder Cup in Louisville in 2008 and we are all very much looking forward to it!! | ||||

| We’ve had some fantastic news about the BBC Alba series that the band took part in last year – A’ Gharaids. It had loads of great feedback, caused controversy in the Trad music world (always a good thing!) and now it’s been nominated for the Media Award in this year’s Scots Trad Music Awards which take place the weekend of the 27-29 November. It was a great experience for the band co-writing and performing the song ‘Hold Your Breath’ with Norrie and Paul so it would be tremendous for the show to win this award. The voting has just started and runs to the 20th November, and we’d really appreciate it if you would tell your friends, fans, facebooks, twitters, aunties, stalkers and everyone else that knows about A’Gharaids and encourage them to vote for the show. | SKERRYVORE ARE VOTED ARGYLL'S TOP YOUNG ENTREPRENEURS! After a great trip to China, Skerryvore returned to Scotland to recieve some great news! The band have been named Argyll’s top young entrepreneurs at the regional finals of the 2009 Prince’s Scottish Youth Business Trust (PSYBT) ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ Awards. Martin Gillespie, Daniel Gillespie, Alec Dalglish and Fraser West, founders of Skerryvore were announced as regional winners at a ceremony at the Council Chambers in Lochgilphead and presented with £1000 cash prize by the award sponsors, FirstPoint USA. The band will now be considered by the judging panel to be entered into the national final taking place at Glasgow’s City Chambers on Wednesday 18th November 2009. Six of the 18 regional winners are selected to compete for the coveted national title of PSYBT ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ and the opportunity to win an additional £2000. Everyone at Skerryvore would like to say a massive thankyou to everyone for supporting the band during 2009 and especially to the PSYBT for their assistance over the past few years. | Skerryvore made their furthest venture to date travelling to the far east to perform in Beijing, China. The band were performing at the International Routes Event that was being held in Beijing from the 12th-15th of September, attracting over 4'500 people from all over the world. The guys also managed to fit in two other performances at music venue Ginkgo and went down a storm with locals and tourists alike. "Beijing was an incredible experience for all of us." said piper Martin Gillespie. "However, coming from Tiree which has a population of around 700 to then being in a city with a population of 14 million really did take my breath away! The locals were extremely friendly, and we received a fantastic reception at all three of our performances. We met the head of the Beijing Caledonian Society regarding performing at one of thier annual events so hope to return to China again in the near future." The band would like to say a special thanks to Olly at Ginkgo, Thomas at the Ritz and also Tao for his guided tour of the 'real' Beijing! | ||||

We are pleased to say that work on the new album is well underway with 7 new tracks already recorded! The band complete a busy month of gigs with performances at the Islay Malt&Music Festival this week before returning to the studio in June to complete the new album. We are all really excited about the new album – especially the new songs. A release date has not yet been set but is likely to be September/October. BAND TO PERFORM ON NATIONAL TV PROGRAM ON FRI 23rd JAN Skerryvore are to perform live on GMTV this Friday morning as part of the launch for Homecoming Scotland 2009. The exact time of performance is TBC but the band will be joining 100 school kids in Dumfries at 6.30am (gulp!) on Friday morning to start the weekend celebrations. The early start will obviously mean no beers for the Skerries after Thursday’s sell-out gig at Celtic connections to ensure the boys are fresh for their appearance on GMTV!  | ||||

| Just to confirm that the Celtic Connections gig at Oran Mor on the 22nd January is completely sold out. The demand for tickets has been incredible and apologies to those who were unable to make it along, we will hopefully catch you at another gig later in 2009. Skerryvore will be joined by a host of special guests for the show on Thursday including Blazin Fiddle’s Allan Henderson, Norrie macIver, Paul McLaughlin and the infamous brass section- The Horn Supremacy!
