| Ben and Jerry's Support Gay Marriage | 90 Tage her | |||
| Ben and Jerry's thankfully retained its activist edge after being bought by food giant Unilever in 2000. Now, to mark the legalization of same-sex marriages in Vermont, the ice cream company has changed the name of its popular “Chubby Hubby” ice cream to “Hubby Hubby” for the month of September. The action was taken in partnership with Freedom to Marry, a marriage equality group. According to a company press release, Ben & Jerry’s renaming the ice cream “aims to raise awareness of the importance of marriage equality and to encourage other states to follow the blazing trails of Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, and Maine.” The name change to “Hubby Hubby” is temporary and, for most of the country, largely symbolic. “Hubby Hubby” ice cream will at this point only be sold in Vermont through September. For those not in the know, Chubby/Hubby Hubby is fudge covered peanut butter filled pretzels in vanilla malt ice cream rippled with fudge and peanut butter. | Viagra Ice Cream? | 111 Tage her | |||
| Ice cream is about to get a lot sexier, at least in London. The Icecreamists, a pop-up ice cream boutique, will open in Selfridges on September 10 and will introduce Londontown to their "vice cream," The Sex Pistol. Think Viagra in a sundae: it's an ice cream cocktail toting ingredients to get you in the mood, like gingko, biloba, arginine and guarana. It's paired with a shot of the intoxicating La Fee Absinthe and is so risque that it will only be served to customers 18 and older, and each customer may only have one! The Icecreamists' founder, Matt O'Connor, says that it's "the perfect apres shopping treat. Just one Sex Pistol will leave you feeling energized and confident - but please, don't pester the staff!" http://perezhilton.com/2009-08-10-vi... | ||||

| National Ice Cream Month! | 166 Tage her | |||
| As always, July is National Ice Cream Month National Ice Cream Month is celebrated by the US every July. This month was designated as national ice cream month by Ronald Reagan in 1984. He also appointed the third Sunday in July as National Ice Cream Day. Reagan recognized the popularity of ice cream in the United States (90% of the nation's population consumes ice cream) and stated that these two events should be observed with "appropriate ceremonies and activities." Unfortunately, many people do not even know that America even has a National Ice Cream Month. The International Ice Cream Association (IICA) also encourages all retailers and consumers to celebrate July as National Ice Cream Month and National Ice Cream Day. This is because the ice cream industry provides thousands of jobs for its United States citizens and generates annually in sales approximately 20 billion dollars. The economic well-being of the nation's dairy industry relies heavily on the sales of ice cream. This is because about 9% of all the milk produced by dairy farmers is used to produce ice cream. so, for all of July, and Sunday the 19th - National Ice Cream Day! make sure you have a great time and eat loads of Ice Cream!!! | ||||

| For all of you lactose intolerant people... | 909 Tage her | |||
| A County Tyrone farmer has come up with a novel idea for allergy sufferers who still crave the taste of ice cream. James Milligan from Castlederg has branched out by making the dessert with milk from his herd of 300 goats. The product provides a tasty alternative to those who are lactose intolerant. While Northern Ireland may not currently be basking in sunny weather, the ice cream has proved a big hit with supermarket buyers. While most of the milk produced by James's goats goes to making cheese - some is used to make Cloon Goat Ice Cream. "We looked around and came up with the idea of ice cream because it didn't take big volumes of milk and you could make it when you needed it," he said. "It suited because the product wasn't there and this is what made the shops so interested. "Usually, every goat produced 3-4 litres of milk a day - and on average that creates 6-8 tubs of ice cream." The goats' milk is sent to Arnaldo Morelli - the fourth generation of his family to make ice cream. He said: "Whenever James first came to us and mentioned goats' milk, the first thing that came into my mind was the pungent taste of goats' cheese. "So whenever we received the first batch of ice cream, we were pleasantly surprised." | ||||

| Keep It On Ice | 1010 Tage her | |||
| All ice cream manufacturers and retailers have to carefully control the temperature of ice cream throughout the distribution chain so that it maintains excellent quality up to the point of sale. After this the consumer has a part to play in ensuring that their ice cream is in peak condition when served. Follow the guidelines below to make sure you keep your ice cream at its best: - Always make ice cream the last item you choose in the supermarket so it does not melt while you choose the rest of your goods. - Take a thermal bag or picnic box with ice packs when you shop – this will protect the product until you get it home. - Make sure you take ice cream home as soon as possible – do not plan other shopping when you have ice cream on board. - When arriving home give ice cream priority when unpacking the shop – put it straight into the freezer and make sure your freezer reaches low enough temperatures to keep the product. - When you serve ice cream and only take a few scoops form a large tub, make sure to return the tub to the freezer as soon as possible before it has a chance to melt. If you wish to protect the quality of the ice cream by preventing air getting to it, scrunch up a few pieces of greaseproof paper and put these on top before replacing the lid. - Ice cream should not be kept indefinitely, follow the star markings in relation to the freezer you have. - Ice crystals in ice cream show that it has been badly kept ie. it has been allowed to thaw and then been refrozen. If you detect ice crystals you should throw the ice cream away and buy more. | ||||

| Ice Cream Facts | 1010 Tage her | |||
| Ice Cream Sundaes were created when it became illegal to sell ice cream with flavoured soda on a Sunday in the American town of Evanston during the late 19th century. Some traders got round it by serving it with syrup instead, calling it an 'Ice Cream Sunday' and eventually replacing the final 'y' with an 'e' to avoid upsetting religious leaders. Britain has the third highest consumption of ice cream in Europe at around 8 litres per person per year, but consumption has little connection with sunshine as we fall behind the Danes and the Swedes. None of us match the Americans though, who get through a staggering 21 litres per person each year. While many people are only aware of a handful of ice cream companies there are over 1,000 in the U.K. producing hundreds of flavours. Despite this fact, vanilla remains the favourite being chosen nine times out of ten. Most ice cream contains more milk protein weight for weight than is present in milk itself. The first real evidence of the existence of a form of 'ice cream' originates from China's Tang period (A.D. 618-97). King Tang of Shang had among his staff 94 ice men who helped to make a dish based on buffalo milk, flour and camphor. Hokey Pokey is a traditional name for ice cream and originated from the early ice cream vendors who peddled their wares shouting “Ecco un poco” - try a sample and in Ireland ice creams are often referred to as 'a poke' or 'pokes'. Ice cream is now considered a food rather than a hot weather treat as 90% of homes have freezers. In Europe, water ices first appeared in the early 1660's in Paris, Naples, Florence and Spain and the first documented evidence of ice cream in England was published in 1672 during the reign of Charles II. At the Feast of St George in 1671 the only table to be served ices was the King's, with one plate of white strawberries and one plate of ice cream. The people of Scotland and Northern Ireland eat more ice cream on average than those in England and Wales. Surveys have shown that men are more likely to choose ice cream as a dessert than women. Flavours you'd never have thought of and yet they're commercially available: Sorbets - Smoked Salmon, Tomato Ice Creams - Cheese, Chilli. The ice cream cone is the most environmentally friendly form of packaging. A Syrian from Damascus, Ernest E Hamwi is credited with its invention. Apparently, during the 1904 St Louis World's Fair, his waffle booth was next to an ice cream vendor who ran short of dishes. Hamwi rolled a waffle to contain ice cream and the cone was born. | ||||
