| NI Tourist Board Advert Campaign, Big Life Publishing, Windmill lane..happy boys. | Il y a 290 jours | |||
We rarely write to this but we got alot of great news recently so we thought we'd share. Firstly, our song "Long May You Reign" has been chosen by the Northern Ireland Tourist Board to feature in a major tv and radio campaign which goes live in Ireland on 9th February. It will be screened on UTV, Channel 4, RTE 1, RTE 2, TV3, Sky 1, Sky News, Sky Sports, Setanta, E4 and MTV. On Saturday 7th February the 60 second tv ad will be premiered on outdoor screens at Croke Park, Dublin at the Ireland vs France Rugby Match. A single release and Irish tour is planned for March ..more news to follow on that. We got the news back in November that they were interested and we've literally been on the edges of our seats ever since. So after a lot of sleepless nights and a strange encounter recording a cover version of "Bring me sunshine" (we'll tell you about that some other time) we finally got the news just before Christmas that they would be using the song. Which made for a very lovely and excited Christmas! We have also signed a publishing deal with Big Life (snow patrol, the verve...) This was the icing on the cake to be dealing with such a great company that has such a great reputation and artist repertoire. Luckily we got to record the track in Windmill Lane studio which is owned by the wonderful Van Morrison. It was recorded and mixed by Ian Mcnulty, a great friend of ours and a brilliant engineer. It was lovely to record with him and in that environment. Its an incredible studio that has been used by the likes of U2, Van Morrison, The Rolling Stones, David Bowie to name but a few. thats it for now i think. Hopefully there will be a lot more news soon. Thanks to everyone so far for all the support that youve shown since we started 2 years ago! much love Phil, Walter, Ger and Kev JSATC | ||||

| Irish News Review of Angeline | Il y a 443 jours | |||
| This week I finally got around to listening to the new single from Belfast based band John Shelley and The Creatures (pictured). Angeline cw/ Long May You Reign is a pretty striking release which makes me wonder why I haven’t heard more about this lot before. The lead track sounds a lot like 2005’s heavyset darlings of the music press The Magic Numbers, a band I never much cared for until the second side of their second album Those The Brokes when they revealed themselves to be masters at writing 1970s’ style make-out ballads. Naturally, by then the press had moved on to the next big thing. Anyway, if you liked the thrumming basslines, cheerfully chiming guitars and coarse yet tuneful vocals of the Numbers’ biggest hits, Angeline’s catchy charms should be right up your alley. Long May You Reign takes us down an altogether dustier road for a melodic country toe tapper featuring pedal steel and some dreamy close harmonies. It’s slightly reminiscent of bands like Beachwood Sparks and The Tyde who were into that whole hippyish psyche-tinged country rock revivalist thing. A little online digging revealed the following interesting facts about John Shelley and The Creatures. Firstly, there’s no one called John Shelley in the band. Much like Cork indie heroes The Frank and Walters, they are named after a pair of homeless twins called John and Shelley the band members once encountered in Berlin. Secondly, the group are a cross border affair, featuring members from both Dublin and Belfast. Having formed in 2006, they released their debut EP Big Day Out last summer - and rather good it is too, with nods to the Doves, Kings of Leon and The Frames peppered across its four varied sounding tracks. You can listen to all four tracks from this in their entirety via myspace.com/whywalter, which also has a link to enable you to purchase them as high quality mp3s. The third interesting fact about John Shelley and The Creatures is that although the new single Angeline won’t be released until September 22, you can see them play it live next Wednesday at The Spring & Airbrake for absolutely nowt, with support from The Good Fight. I’ll wager they might even have advance copies to sell you or at the very least trade in exchange for pints and/or ‘romantic’ favours. *thanks irish news for great review!!* | ||||
