Update on all things The End Again..... 29 Tage her

Ok, so it's been a little while since we've posted anything here. As you can see we've a few new gig dates added.

We're playing our first Dublin show since the album tour in June (The Button Factory that time) on Saturday 12th December. This time we're hitting Fibbers on Parnell Street for the first time, which we're pretty excited about. We'll be supporting Dublin band 'Xerosun' on this date (check them out at: www.myspace.com/myxerosun). They've a new album coming out soon so keep an eye out for them!!

We're also really looking forward to playing 2 dates with 'Mike Got Spiked' in the INF, Warrenpoint on Saturday 19th December and The Spirit Store, Dundalk on the 30th December. These will be homecoming gigs for Mike Got Spiked considering they've spent the vast majority of the past couple of years touring over 40 states in the USA!! They won't be back in Ireland for long by all accounts (recording album number two and then heading back to the states) so make sure to check them out at one of these two shows. Check them out at: www.myspace.com/mikegotspiked).

We've also been working on some new material with a some new tracks in the pipeline. One or two might get an airing at the shows in December, we'll see... :)

Anyway, till next time, adios, see you at the shows in December....

REVIEW OF MY LOVE IS DEAD FROM WHITE DEMON ON H67129 Tage her

Review

The End Again - My Love is Dead

By White Demon

The debut album for Dundalk based band, The End Again, “My love is Dead” begins with a fizzle rather than a bang unfortunately enough. This is not to take away from the first track on the album, called “Identity”. As this is the first time I’d ever heard the band in any way or form this struck me as being important, since a debut album is the first impression they will make on a wider audience. The song would have appeared better in the middle of the album with possibly the song “Portrait” taking hold as an intro song to grab the listener from the outset.
As is, the album contains track after track of fantastic song writing. In all aspects of the instrumentation I find the word “tasteful” sums up each area.

The vocals are done in several styles throughout the album. At times they are reminiscent to Corey Taylors style in Stone Sour at times, and other times a slight touch of Mike Patton can be heard, for example on the song “My Life, My Love, My Sin”. My only point to make on the vocals is the tuning is flat on the song “Crawl”. It’s a pity really because it is a clever song but the tuning problem distracts from the clever use of rhythms up until approximately 2:10 into the song.

For a band, who claims to be melodic, they prove it in their use of guitars. The guitarists don’t break any new ground here and don’t appear to aim for any wild virtuosity, but sound great throughout the album, consistent in their simplicity. The influence of bands such as Breaking Benjamin or Tool is evident in the rhythmic and textural use of the guitars rather than being all about “the riff”. I did find the bass was a little bit too low in the mix though for the sound they were aiming for.

The drummer in my opinion sounded like he was holding back on the bass drum. In the song “There’s the Stare” he uses some triplets near the end that were badly needed in other songs to break up the continuous single beat. This could be mistaken for him not being as capable as he probably is. There are little gems here and there when listening through the album, but in songs where the tension is building that extra touch of aggression on the drums would have made all the difference for the energy. Good solid drumming but just needs loosen up and beat the hell out of the kit at times.

A lot has to be said for the production on this album, and I don’t mean that in a bad way. The layering of instruments in the songs and all the tiny extras such as samples being used to enhance what is going on gives the album that level of professionalism that a debut album needs to stand out from the crowd.

Over all I think this album does deserve to be given a good solid listening to. I know I enjoyed it and will continue to stick it on from time to time now that I’ve stuck it on my laptop.

MetalIreland.com review of 'My Love is Dead'.135 Tage her

See: www.metalireland.com/2009/07/22/the-... , apparently we're a bit too commercial.....!! Thanks for the review Ciaran.

The End Again (ROI) | ‘My Love Is Dead’

This bunch of lads from Dundalk look absolutely harmless and cite Perfect Circle and Tool as influences. So it’s surprising that their music has somehow ended up sounding like a cracking mix of very late period Paradise Lost and Soil. Personally, I’d only be into one half of that equation - but for a demo, it’s jolly good.

A tussle between proper metal and contemporary styles is ongoing throughout. That’s part of the reason it’s very hard to turn off - like A Little Bitter, a real metallic undercurrent is always discernable. In this instance there’s a decent dose of Layne Staley thrown in to the vocal mix (’Portrait’), with those harmonies executed very well indeed. Derivative yes, but it’s hard to deny the ear candy.

As for the sound, well it’s top notch. So what’s not to like? Well the grating, irritating commercialisms, mainly. It sounds like a producer has been very active over this music. It sounds like that producer was listening to Nickelback and reading Forbes. That producer was probably behind suggestions like putting that shitty, uttlerly passé transistor radio / underwater effect over the drums before a slamming chorus. You know, those kind of irritating and completely unnecessary intrusions into otherwise class tracks.

Also, it’s a bit mopey. You’d forgive them though, with tracks like ‘Running The Blade’ and ‘Ladywell’ showing maturity, ability and a real ear for a chorus. Yes, it’s shot through with an audible desire to be on Cool FM, or whatever your local ballix radio station is at lunchtime, and who knows, more power to them if they succeed. Remove those inclinations and this could be a proper metal / hard rock band for the long term. Over to them, but there’s no denying the quality of the playing.

Review of 'My Love is Dead' by Colm Cullen at www.drop-d.ie158 Tage her

Let’s get something straight up front. This band are good. Damned good. Spend your damned money, people! Dundalk natives The End Again are well worthy of it with their debut album My Love Is Dead.

Some influences are obvious. They’re self-confessed Tool, Rage Against The Machine and Deftones fans, and it shows. Along with touches of Life Of Agony and possibly the odd moment of Pro-Pain.

The point is that it all mixes together and comes out excellent. Did I mention they’re damned good?

11 tracks, 49 minutes and there’s no real clangers (not a real ballad fan, I get enough depression in the day job and if I want more, I’ll watch Eastenders), and even the ballads rock at times.

The tracks on show stand up, each in their own right - musically competent and proficient along with some cracking riffs
I found this an absolute joy to listen to. Sorry if I come across a bit gushy, but I really loved this album (and no, I have no connection to the band/friends of the band/friends of friends of the band and my dog hasn’t sniffed their dog’s arse).

The tracks on show stand up, each in their own right - musically competent and proficient along with some cracking riffs. With the vocals varying between Pro-Pain style screaming and ‘normal’ singing (split between guitarist Ronan McCrory and bassist Ger Murphy). Guitars are heavy as……well….as me I suppose (I’m a bit of a lardass), and positively rifftastic. Drums (Ian Harold), bass (Ger Murphy), guitars (Ronan McCrory and Kevin Carroll), vocals (Ronan / Ger ), all hit the mark. Production is spot on, and Jason Varley deserves kudos for that.

Best tracks? The outstanding opening trio of Identity, Running The Blade and Portrait (a gem),and There’s The Stare.

Do I recommend this? As Stone Cold would say, “Hell yeah!”

Drop-D Rating: 8.5/10

The album is now available from their website, Tower Records and on iTunes.
