The History of Green Day11/18/06

Billie Joe Armstrong (born 1972, California) started a band with Mike Dirnt (born 1972, California) when they were just 14, originally called sweet children. They Later added Drummer Al Sobrante and changed their name to Green Day both of these adjustments boosted sweet childrens reputation in the suburbs of the punk scene of gilman street. They made their first record, 1039/smoothed out slappy hours in 1990 after signing a contract with the local recording company, Lookout Records.
But shortly after the release of the album Al Sobrante left Green Day to persue further College and University education. Green Day have said that they "dont think they would have gotten where they were today if he had stayed". Al Sobrante was soon replaced by Tre' Cool (born 1972, Germany) who had moved to California at just the right time when Green Day needed a drummer, and things were looking bleak. He would be Green Days permanent drummer.
Green Day then, a year later in 1991, released Kerplunk with Lookout records. This album captured many major records companies eyes and soon, Green Day was Offered contracts with at least half a dozen record companies.
They decided to go with Reprise Records, which would permantly be their record company.
Upon this change, Green Day released the 1994 hit album, Dookie, which became an instant hit, selling 20 million copies worldwide, making it Green Days best selling album to this date.
They continued to make albums all through the 90s, with Insomniac (1995, 2x Platinum), Nimrod (1997, 2x Platiunum) and Warning (1999, Gold status). In 2000 they released International Superhits (Gold status), compiled with all their greatest hits, plus three new songs. And, in 2002 they released Shenanigans(-), a compilation of their B-side tracks.
But then in 2004 Green Day made a dramatic come back to the charts with American Iidot. It was said to be a "rock-opera" telling the story of a man named st jimmy. the album reflects his life, his highs and lows etc. The first single to be released was American Idiot, which went straight to #1, second in line was Holiday which also went booming to #1. Thirdly was Boulevard Of Broken Dreams, which was so sucessful they decided to donate all the money from downloaded tracks to charity. next they released Wake Me Up When September Ends, going to #6 on the billboard charts. And then, lastly they released Jesus Of Suburbia, which didnt do as well but still went to #17 in America.
Since then American Idiot has sold 15 million copies worldwide and has gone 3x Platinum, making it their second best album to date.
And finally Green Days latest album, Bullet In A Bible in 2005. this album contains video footage of the Milton Keynes gig in early 2005, plus exclusive interviews. The album, being Green Days first officially released live album, included 14 of their best ever songs, starting with the powerful American Idiot and finishing with the tearful, Time Of Your Life.
And the most recent material was in 2006 when Green Day worked with U2 to produce a cover of The Skid's "The Saints Are Coming". The record did well and went to #1 on a number of countries, but peaked at #2 in the UK.
And in late 2006 Billie Joe stated in a Rolling Stones Magazine issue that "It was a pretty fair estimate to say that the (next) album will be released in 2008".

That was Green Days history, I hope you enjoyed it.
