Jezery
Cork’s Jezery return to Limerick on Saturday, 26th January, for a show at baker place. Releasing their debut ep last year, ‘ Six Sided Clothes’, the four piece of Ted Murphy, Shane o’Sullivan , Shane o’Leary and Jimmy Lyons blend psychedelic, prog, punk: and have the all too rare combination of citing influences as diverse as The Beatles, Primus, King Crimson and Tom Waits. After packing the underground at Bakers last March expect more of the same when they play Bakers bar next week(stolen from limerick independent. cheers ciaran!)

four track ep from this new irish based outfit released on their own label, features alone together, killing time, can will fate and six sided clothes, these four guys from cork blend up explosive post punk sounds with the slightly more intricate guitar work of some post rock sounds along with some very very clever jazzy rock edges, try to imagine the abrasive sounds of fugazi or jesus lizard blended with the intricate guitar work of early tortoise and the slightly madcap prog sounds of either mars volta or king crimson, features some supremely intelligent musicianship(review of six sided clothes from road records)

Oh My God!... (it might be him)
Delivering a kooky psychedelic pop-rock shaped by the influence of the best from the 60s and 70s, from The Velvet Underground through to The Magic Mushrooms, soon to emerge all-girl band from Cork, OMGIMBH, are showing early promise.

Sir Lurkalot and Green For Go key in with all the right ingredients for spontaneity, frustration, euphoria, and spirited garage-pop psychedelia, and all of what pop-rock music should be about at its core. A band currently gigging the Cork area and writing new material in whatever spare time they have, both Sir Lurkalot and Green For Go are downloadable from their fledgling myspace on the net - and is a highly recommended visit for those keen to get in early on the act. 8/10(stolen from frequencyireland.com)

Papier Tigre

Papier Tigre
Papier Tigre are a 3 piece rock band from Nantes, France, comprising of Eric Pasquereau (guitar), Arthur de la Grandiere (guitar), and Pierre Antoine Parois (drums). Having played together in various other peoples' projects over the years, they finally found the opportunity to form a band and pursue their own ideas in January 2006. The energy and dynamic amongst the three musicians was instant, and within the short space of a year enough material for a self-titled debut album "Papier Tigre" was completed.
In the absence of bass, Papier Tigre's sound is built around pounding tribal drums that propel each song forward with ruthless efficiency. This urgency is underlined by the distinctive and insistent vocals of Eric Pasquereau, his strained yelps acting as a rallying cry to the guitars, which occupy the space between voice and drums and make it their own. Whether working together or against each other, the interplay between the two instruments is explosive. Brittle melodies seemingly scrap with vicious riffs, before the two suddenly come together to deliver the coup de grace. This is art punk, but at it's most primal.
Like Pere Ubu and Gang Of Four before them, Papier Tigre understand that a song being intelligent and complex need not exclude it from having a raw, danceable energy. Their music firmly entrenched in the tradition of inventive, challenging punk - think Fugazi, Q and Not U, The Ex - yet whilst Papier Tigre have drawn influence from these bands, they have a style and delivery all of their own. The mode of communication is rooted firmly in the contemporary; rhythmically and vocally these songs recall the mutant, angular disco of Chinese Stars or even The Rapture or Liars.
Papier Tigre's first record was released in February this year on Effervesence. Having toured widely in France and continental Europe, playing with such established acts as Battles (Warp), Radio4 (Interscope), Charlottefield (Fatcat) and I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness (Secretly Canadian), this will be their first time in the UK. Needless to say, they are looking forward to the occasion.
"Gripping their guitars and spitting their refrains, [Papier Tigre's] album quickly recalls Fugazi and Gang of Four. This is the DIY punk ethic shimmering with scratched Afro-Beat rhythms, ricocheting off compositions that are always one step ahead of themselves … The songs of Papier Tigre are drunk on petrol fumes, yet carried by an earnest energy."Trax Magazine

Yellow Swans BIO: Yellow Swans play a constantly evolving mass of psychedelic noise that is both physically arresting and psychically liberating. Their music is powerful rendering of free rock, black electronics, and white light vibrations.

Consisting of Pete Swanson (vocals, drum machine, and electronics) and Gabriel Mindel Saloman (guitars, feedback, electronics), Yellow Swans create a dense ocean of sound using various analog and digital machines, all locked in a spiraling web of feedback.

Yellow Swans, having spent two years in Oakland, CA, are based once again in Portland, OR, where they originally formed in the Fall of 2001.

They are currently working on their third studio album, to be released in 2007 on LOAD Records.

Have a listen to them in our flash box
