Headline Gig on the 31st in the Cruiscin Lán.Il y a 324 jours

Alright guys, for the first time in a long time we have a gig lined up on the 31st. In association with FREAKPIT, we'll be headlining in the Cruiscin Lan (In Cork if you don't know, haha) with many other great bands and the money made will go to Enable Ireland.

The lineup is:

Forbidden Son
Suede Halo
Weapon of Choice
Forsaken
This Dark Room
Orangotwang

The gig will start at 2 o clock and we'll be on at about 5. We'd love to get a good crowd down to see us considering its been so long and we hope it'll start off another load of gigs for us in 2009.

Keep it metal, leave a comment if you can go, it'd be much appreciated!

Update!Il y a 505 jours

Well I thought I'd write a blog on here as I haven't in a while, to keep you all updated!

First things first, thanks to all who came out to the LA or Busk BOTB today in the Triskel, we didn't win (Well done to Second to Nothing!) but we didn't expect to considering our genre. We were very happy with the response we got and it was probably our best gig in months. Thanks to all involved, especially the Blast Crew for letting us play and the crowd and the bands, special thanks to Rock the Rubicon for their support and being in general unreal!

Secondly, we are getting very positve reviews for our Arise EP scattered across the net as of late, which we are HUGELY happy about.

The Metal Observer, a massive metal zine with over 6 million hits, gave the EP an 8.5/10, calling it 'a monster of an EP' and they wouldn't be surprised if a major label picked us up! Delighted. You can read the full (And very detailed) review in the blog.

Our second review, from the online metal zine ADRENALIN METAL, gave us a very generous 7.7/10, saying we very talented, had alot of dynamics and combined many unique styles. Read the review in the blog.

Our third and last review we got from online zine Irish Metal Fansite, which gave us a pretty good 3.75/5, calling it a very solid EP, specifically praising our 8 minute instrumental title track ARISE. Check blog for review!

That's about it for now, keep checking our sites for updates, especially for new material for a future, untitled cd and the usual gigs (Soon to be pub gigs! Roll on December...)

G'luck! Barry, -FS-

Adrenalin Metal Zine Review of Arise EP (7.7/10)Il y a 507 jours

Heather's Review: If there was ever a band out there that just genuinely wanted you to hear their music, Forbidden Son is that band. They offer the EP for free. All you have to do is send them an email that they have on their myspace site (Yes, I am going to make you to to their page and look for it!) Now, often when bands are just giving cd's away, usually they are doing that because they can't find anyone that likes it enough to want to buy it. That is not the case with Forbidden Son. They are a very talented band with a very melodic vocalist. Dynamically, they were right on. They have a unique style and are good at what they do. It is a combination of metal, rock, some progressive metal, and even a bit of jazz. They have a great song variation and will definitely keep you interested. They have been around since 2005 and have other cd's out as well. Check them out! They can be found at www.myspace.com/forbiddenson or www.forbiddenson.bebo.com.

Review of Arise EP by Metal Observer (8.5/10)Il y a 516 jours

Genre: Thrash Metal / Melodic Metal
Label: Self-production
Playing time: 26:48
Band homepage: Forbidden Son

Tracklist:
Bleed
Reflect The Night
S.O.S. (Sweetest Of Sympathy)
Arise 08

Most bands don’t really mature into their music until at least 2 or 3 solid releases are under their belts – but occasionally a band does arrive and with a single release unleashes a unique and well crafted piece of work. With Irish Melodic Thrashers FORBIDDEN SON this holds true. With their first release they had crafted their own style. But now that they are on their third release, an EP entitled “Arise”, does the band continue to shake the foundations?

With 3 new tracks and a rerecorded instrumental, “Arise” does everything one can to impress a listener of Heavy Metal music. Combinations of catchy melodies and Thrasher moments keep the music shifting and varied so that (even with its short play time) the EP never becomes stale. Touches of a Progressive nature help keep the music layered and fascinating but the Thrash heart really gives this EP a ton of energy.

Top notch performances from all the members of FORBIDDEN SON help assist the song writing. Impressive guitar solos and fret work really had me taken back and with great foundations of structure and rhythm and this is a monster of a release. Some lack luster production values hinder the performances from reaching god-like statuses but at times the rough sound does have it’s charm with the band.

I must also mention that the melodic approach to the vocals really make this band stand out. With its Thrash nature, most vocalists will take a harsher tone with them but FORBIDDEN SON keep a quantity of the melody in the vocal tracks rather than the instrumental parts and it works perfectly. A hand for being brave.

This is a great release for these Irish Metalheads and with music like this it wouldn’t surprise me if some of the bigger Metal labels began looking in their direction. A little tighter production would do them wonders though.

Songs to check out: “Bleed”, “S.O.S. (Sweetest Of Sympathy)”, “Arise 08”.

Review of the Arise EP by the Irish Metal FansiteIl y a 530 jours

"Hailing from Cobh, Co Cork, Forbidden Son are a 4 piece Hard Rock/Heavy Metal outfit with a wealth of experience to their benefit. The band are certainly prolific with two previous releases ("Self Titled" -2006, and "The Balance of All Good and Evil" - 2007) already behind them. This latest release "Arise" features 4 tracks, one of which ("Sweetest of Sympathy") has been featured on recent compilation that has seen a stateside and internet release. Not bad for a small unsigned band from the west of Ireland!

So on to the music...

Though this is essentially a solid effort with much to admire musically it is not without fault (to be discussed later). "Bleed" opens the EP nicely, there is some strong themes to be heard early on...I feel the chorus is particularly infectious. The midsection is a little curious, perhaps taking away from the flow of the song but it is definitly interesting and shows a willingness to experiment.

"Reflect The Night" for me is a double edged sword. It features some nice ideas musically but I feel that perhaps the band are feeling the weight of their own ambition with regard to some of the more complex rhythmic patterns...particularly early on (there is quite a noticable drag on the tempo in the more complex sections). Special mention must go to the lead work, very well played indeed.

"Sweetest of Sympathy" is perhaps the most complete of the songs on offer. There are some very strong themes throughout and the vocal delivery is admirable. Perhaps there are a few too many drum patterns, again sometimes the ambition of the band weighs a little too heavily. Very good track though and again there is some great lead work to be heard.

The instrumental "Arise" brings to the E.P. to a close in fine fashion. It weaves through various tempos and themes showcasing the talent on offer. Make no mistake...these guys can play and they can play well. There are some excellent riffs...the riff after the Death Metalesque section must get a mention....very cool.

So, its a strong E.P. with great musicianship and some stellar songwriting...what were these faults mentioned earlier? Well, for me, my main criticism is levelled at the production. The vocals are a little lost, drowned in reverb for the most part and the guitars dont really crunch enough. Theres just not enough "power" in this mix... for want of a better word. Hopefully future recording will address this balance because there is a ton of potential here.

The Good: Great musicianship. Some strong songwriting. Nice lead work. The entire "Arise" track.

The Bad: Production could be better. Perhaps a little too clever at times when its not neccessary. Some tempo issues.

IMF Score: 3.75/5

If you like what you hear you can purchase their E.P. via I Tunes. (Its worth it for the title track alone!)
