We had a grand old time at Autumn Soul this year, slightly different setting to usual (!), and probably our last ever AS set.

But Soul Purpose continues, we'll lead worship wherever you are if dates can be worked out and you and we feel it's a God thing! Meanwhile, we have a few resources that you might find helpful...

If you'd like to see our worship songlist please leave a comment and we'll get in touch - we can e-mail you a pdf with chords for most of the songs, as well as powerpoint and publisher files for projecting and printing (you just need to report the songs on your church's copyright license).

If you'd prefer 'real' music, a lot of our newer ones are in Spring Harvest 2007-8 and probably will make it into Songs of Fellowship 4. CDs that we like include Matt Redman (Beautiful News), Tim Hughes (Holding nothing back), Chris Tomlin (See the morning), Great Big God 3... Let us know if you're trying to source a particular song.

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who was at CHW and supported us but more importantly worshipped hard. We had a great week and we trust God was blessed.

I want to wish you a very happy Christmas, and to request two things of you:

1) Will you pray for us please? With babies, a wedding, and the normal things life throws at us, 2007 is going to be busy! We want to follow God's calling as to when to lead worship, but we need to get the balance right. Thanks!

2) Worship through carols. Get past the sentimentalism and the familiar, loved tunes. Ponder the words you're singing and allow the event of God with us to speak to your heart once more. Let's keep Jesus at the centre of Christmas.

Come, Lord Jesus!

Things might be a bit quiet on the old 'Tour Dates' list above for the next wee while, as our baby count increases yet again in the next few months. But if you feel we could serve your church or event please give us a try - it might just work out!

Meanwhile, put 4-11 August 2007 in your diary, for Castlewellan Holiday Week 2007 - speakers Jon Middendorf and Andy Frost; Soul Purpose will be leading worship again DV.


p.s. I added the DV (deus volent or something like that, Latin for 'If God wills it') because I read a verse the other day that I took to mean that our future plans should always be subject to the will of God - he might have other plans!

A few of us were at the Autumn Soul Advance Day yesterday - a day of prayer and inspiration for Team AS before the event itself. Mels was there (she's on hospitality this year), the lovely Kathryn and bump (she's planning the worship sessions with a team) et moi (second year of prayer ministry).

We're excited about what God is going to do at Autumn Soul. We're excited about what might happen when hundreds of young Christians gather to worship their life-transforming, creating, saving God.

Make sure you're going to be there! Get a group together and go to Autumn Soul!

Pray for the AS Band and Lynn and Suz as they lead. And we'll see you at the Big Sing!

I've been thinking about songs and styles... Curt has written us a comment asking for songs... Well Curt, at the moment there aren't any songs, mainly because we haven't got round to it. But also because of the randomness that is Soul Purpose - every time we think someone's recording a worship set it never gets as far as our ears (or anyone else's!).

It reminds me that live music is best, and that being part of a live worshipping community is better than re-living the experience. Even if that live worshipping community is a wee country church that feels half-dead - God made us to be in community so I'm going to put a load more effort into that than trying to get us recorded. Of course, I've been hugely blessed by a large number of 'live worship' albums (which have tons of studio work done on them to make them sound good), I'd even go as far as saying I've experienced the love of God in a fresh and meaningful way through them as I worshipped alongside the original congregation.

But this brings me to the crux of the matter - when in the past we were being recorded at Autumn Soul we felt such a pressure on us to play well that it became quite difficult to worship. And worship was the whole point of being there in the first place!

This is why our 'style' above is 'Christian'. Our influences include such a wide range of artists and the congregations that we worship with come from such a wide range of backgrounds that it would be impossible to list our style as anything else.

God gave us music and all art to express ourselves, to create, to bring him joy. I revel in the fact that one moment we can be totally rock, bouncing and dancing... and the next moment it's like we're the Christian Corrs!!! I love having screaming guitar solos and jazz-band woodwind and brass harmonies one after the other.

I'm not expressing myself very well, but I think what I want to say is that Soul Purpose doesn't have a music style. We play music that we pray will bring God's people into an attitude of devotion, and will use whatever style is appropriate to do it.

Does anyone else have any thoughts on this (band or otherwise?)

Just thought I'd pop a blog entry on to say 'hi' to anyone who's ventured onto this page - probably by accident! We're having a practice tomorrow evening and I'm really looking forward to it... Well, sort of! We'll be working on some new songs for the Castlewellan list, and arranging just one song can take forever, never mind a dozen or more!

But the music has been copied (legally!), the date and venue set... John and I are both preaching on Sunday so we've got sermons to do before 'going out to play'. Must buckle down now and stop tweaking this page!

Hope you're going to CHW at some stage. I'm ready to meet God there in and with the community of worshippers. The best is yet to come!
