Are Friends Eclectic <AreFriendsEclectic>
"Create your own mixtape.............but live!"

’’Are Friends Eclectic’’ is a monthly vinyl night in Kilkenny. The difference with the night is that its YOURS. Its essentially an open decks night, but the ''dj’s'' are (mostly) amateurs. We’re looking for people who have interesting VINYL collections and would like to showcase it. A crash course will be given before the night on the decks, but mixing ability is not important! Music style doesn’t matter as long as its good. Its like a public house party of sorts! So....... how can you play??? Just drop me an e-mail or comment saying you'd like to play and i'll get back to u.(simple as that) Each set lasts about 20 tracks. The next night will be on 5th December, so why not come along and see what u think. Its just a group of music lovers kickin' back and loving the music!! See u there. "A.F.E - This friday, Paul Deacon, Simon Walsh, Nikkin Brooks. Ryans (back room). Doors @ 9:00" (1 day ago) me too!

SOME OF THE MUSIC PLAYED SO FAR.....
Modest mouse, Moby, Kerbdog, Beck, Arcade Fire, Slipknot, Justice, Chuck Berry, Dj Shadow, Radiohead, System of a Down, Duke Special, Tom Waits, The Clash, Chemical Brothers, Jape, Rjd2, Primus, God is an Astronaut, Futureheads, MGMT, Depeche Mode, Bangles, The Specials, Beastie Boys, Queens of the stone age, James Brown, Warlords of Pez, Amy Winehouse, Vitalic, Gil Scott-Heron, Fleetwood Mac, Ian Brown, Four tet, Johnny Cash, Muse, Pearl jam, Mogwai, Kings of Leon, Soulsavers, T-Rex, 65 days of Static, The Prodigy, Kraftwerk, Down, Thin Lizzy, Unkle, The Shins, Nirvana, Squarepusher, Grandmaster Flash...................and alot of obscure bands i've never even heard of!!! (hope that gives a rough idea)
WHAT I'M LISTENING TO
JAMIROQUAI - TRAVELLING WITHOUT MOVING.......Travelling Without Moving is the third album by Jamiroquai. Released in 1996, the album features the international hit single "Virtual Insanity". The album also has a more diverse sound than previous albums, with more instrumental tracks, and a greater electronic influence, which mixed new synthetic sounds with shades of acid-jazz.

THE NEXT NIGHT IS......

FOR SALE
We all have vinyl we either bought and realised we don't actually like or ended up with something twice. If you want to sell it just send me a message with how much you're looking for it and i'll put it up. I'm not looking for comission, just acting as a middle man between u and the buyer. No dance please. Its usually too genre specific and there's just too much crap. Trust me, i have piles of it!

    Record Collector Rare Price Guide

    Grading System

In order to assist everyone who buys and sells rare discs, Record Collector magazine has originated a set of standards for the condition of second-hand records, cassettes and CDs. Anyone buying or selling records must use these conditions to state what amount of wear and tear the disc, its sleeve and/or contents have been subject to. The seven standard condition categories, and a description of what each one means, are listed below:

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

After a longer break than usual, Are Friends Eclectic returns with 3 new ''Dj's''. Getting the night underway will be Emmet O Gara. This showes dedication as Emmet will be traveling from Longford to play his eclectic set. He hasn't given me any idea yet of what he'll be playing! Following him will be Aoife O Reilly. Aoife has only been collecting vinyl for just over a year but has amassed quite a collection in that short period. Expect some indie and possible some past classics. Topping the bill this friday will be Cleveland Mike. Someone described him recently as someone ''who never gives up''. Mike has been running music nights in Kilkenny over the past few years and currently runs nights in both District 18 and the Pumphouse. It's gonna be interesting!!!

For 18th july i have 3 more ''victims'' lined up!! Those of u who know the night by now know that i like to mix up the style of music each night and this one is no exception. First up on Friday will be James Karney. Those of u who know him, know his complete obsession with vinyl. Over the years he has introduced me to many artists i may have otherwise overlooked. Expect funk and soul and possibly some classic rock! Next up will be Paddy Cuddihy. He's the blonde one from the Thermal Detonators! (and will kill me for saying that!) That in itself should give a clue as to what he might play but I saw some of what he bought in prague recently and u wont be disappointed. Rounding of this night will be Dave Laiso. This is the guy who founded the now legendary ''Switch'' night in the same venue as ourselves a few years back. This night practically introduced hip hop, electro, breakbeat and especially drum n bass to kilkenny. I haven't heard him play in a long time so it will be good to get him behind the decks in Ryans again! As always i'm looking out for more people who may be interested in playing. This night is still in its infancy so get collecting and give me a shout when you have a list/set together. Experience on the decks is not needed at all.

Well man, have you gotten a definite lineup for the Halloween one yet? I had an interesting plan for one night but it's a little bit off yet. I've picked up some nice new bits. Got some great punk stuff. Gotta try and diversify the collection a little bit though. Listening to a lot of folk at the moment. Sadly, not gettin around to buyin any on wax though. But yeah, I would like to play at some point but you'll have to run through the process with me.
