- Me, Myself, and I
- ’’Are Friends Eclectic’’ is a monthly vinyl night in Kilkenny. The difference with the night is that its YOURS. Its essentially an open decks night, but the ''dj’s'' are (mostly) amateurs. We’re looking for people who have interesting VINYL collections and would like to showcase it. A crash course will be given before the night on the decks, but mixing ability is not important! Music style doesn’t matter as long as its good. Its like a public house party of sorts! So....... how can you play??? Just drop me an e-mail or comment saying you'd like to play and i'll get back to u.(simple as that) Each set lasts about 20 tracks. The next night will be on 22nd May, so why not come along and see what u think. Its just a group of music lovers kickin' back and loving the music!! See u there. Contact us at arefriendseclectic@yahoo.
- SOME OF THE MUSIC PLAYED SO FAR.....
- The following are some of the bands people have played in their sets..............Modest mouse, Moby, Kerbdog, Beck, Arcade Fire, Slipknot, Justice, Chuck Berry, Dj Shadow, Radiohead, System of a Down, Duke Special, Tom Waits, The Clash, Chemical Brothers, Jape, Rjd2, Primus, God is an Astronaut, Futureheads, MGMT, Depeche Mode, Bangles, The Specials, Beastie Boys, Queens of the stone age, James Brown, Warlords of Pez, Amy Winehouse, Vitalic, Gil Scott-Heron, Fleetwood Mac, Ian Brown, Four tet, Johnny Cash, Muse, Pearl jam, Mogwai, Kings of Leon, Soulsavers, T-Rex, 65 days of Static, The Prodigy, Kraftwerk, Down, Thin Lizzy, Unkle, The Shins, Nirvana, Squarepusher, Grandmaster Flash...................and alot of obscure bands i've never even heard of!!! (hope that gives a rough idea)

First Birthday and personal rant
So its already been a year since I set up Are Friends Eclectic and I'm delighted to have so many people looking to play each night. This recession crap is affecting us all but don't be tempted to stop buying vinyl and start downloading all your music! Try to make it into your local record shop at least once a week and keep your ears open for when the vinyl fairs are in town. Don't forget that all record shops can order in vinyl for you but you do have to ask. The catalog on the store computers is incredible and is updated every day so no matter what your tastes are, I'm sure the shops will have a good chance of getting it in. I'm thrilled that so many people have recently started to collect and even if you haven't yet......Start. Once you begin you'll be surprised just how quickly you amass a collection.
Gigs...... Are you attending? I'm not just talking about Are Friends Eclectic here, but all gigs. At the moment, especially in Kilkenny, there's loads of excellent gigs going on each weekend. Most of these are under €15. Think about it, you get an entertaining night out for little cash and you're supporting the musicians who deserve it. Not enough people are attending these each week so even try to go to 1 a month. I know to some people thats very little but there's people who say they love music and rarely go to gigs. Its the best way to appreciate a band!................which brings me on to.......
Rhythm and roots weekend, THIS weekend.
Once again we are priviliged to have quality music from well established acts travelling to Kilkenny for the weekend. Many of these gigs are FREE, yes FREE, so turn off your pc and head out at least one of the nights this weekend and browse from pub to pub (no drink necessary). I bet you'll find something you like.

I'll do my best to get a few people down man, I haven't really be talking to anyone about it cuz I've been working tonnes. Anyway, what's your availability for tomorrow man?
-
Conor Kavanagh7 weeks agoWednesday would be possible for me. I am on night duty at the moment so I'd probably sleep for the day and get up around this time.

Yeah man, that sounds like a good buzz. But I'm worried about the logistics of it now. I'll need a few run-throughs with yourself. I knew I should've bought that Mi Ami 12" last night, but such is life. Let me know when you're free to show me the ropes man cuz I'd be very very nervous playing.

Conor Kavanagh8 weeks agoHey there Kevin. Congratulations on your first year. Sorry that I haven't made it down in a long time but I have had a lot on lately. Would love to get a different date for that set however if the offer still stands, although I will still need to be walked through the basics of it, like my drum-playing friend was. Anyway, best of luck in the future.
