Radio Panel on Hunting, Flirt F.M
Animal Rights Society's auditor has sat on a radio panel discussing hunting in Ireland. Also on the panel, we're pro-hunting Countryside Soc auditor Davis Scallon and Nuetral? (former hunter) Eanna. The show will most likely be broadcast next Tuesday on Flirt F.M. We represented the view of 80% of the Irish population, that hunting is cruel and should be ended.

Details of time will be available as soon as we know them ourselves!

Happy Easter

This is a call for signatures to a petition to help stop the LIVE skinning of cats & dogs. Yes that's right, LIVE... Imagine someone going up to your dog or cat and skinning it live. This is happening today in 2008 in China and it is DISGUSTING.

1) Head to http://animalsaviors.org
2) Watch the video to see it for yourself (see warning)
3) Sign the petition

Hi,
First of all I am not a member of any lobby and certainly dont have a chairman, so don't jump to any conclusions and put me neatly in a box!!

Its appaling that that behaviour went on at the debate and I don't condone it in any way, and I certainly dont speak on behalf of them. If that was the case it was the loudmouths that were due to leave. If some can't hold their tongue and lose their temper easily they should not go near any debate.

Is the society against ALL forms of hunting, or particular campaigns such as fox hunting with hounds? My issue is with the society using 'hunters' and 'hunting' right alongside accusations of cruelty and animal welfare. There are many forms of hunting, general rabbit shooting, deer hunters (not with hounds) etc. The whole objective of being a good hunter in these cases, is to be an excellent shot in order to give a quick clean kill, and to be able to stalk the animal without causing disturbance...

Unfortunately, the animal rights society has only come across 'bad eggs' who have been rude to us, thrown obscenities at us and threatened our members. At the big hunting debate half our committee had to leave because of the profanities thrown at them by hunters. Speaking for myself, I have only come across completely unacceptable conduct on behalf of the pro-hunt lobby, which is best illustrated by the words of your chairman, Mr Gavin Duffy. If you would like me to send you recordings of the aforementioned debate and the heckling and outstanding rudeness shown by the hunt, mail me your address. you can also read about this in an earler issue of the Galway Independant, which we can also post.

I'm still waiting to meet a 'nice egg', but, then again there's nothing nice about killing helpless animals.

Bad eggs on both sides?? I am completely unaware of 'bad eggs' on the anti-blood side and have only found ICABS aand other Irish anti-blood lobbyists to be 'good eggs'.

Im extremely dissapointed that the society would try and use a few bad eggs who also hunt (see comments below), and attempt to use them to represent the very broad range of our population that do hunt in some way....

There are bad eggs at each side of every debate, but they are usually ignored as they do not better each sides cause in any way.

Nuig Students' Union
Some of you might be aware that a member of the HSE visited the fourth year student nurses yesterday, informing them of the fact that no employment will become available once they finish their course in June. Understandably this has been of some upset to all concerned. Like yourselves these students have studied hard for four years in order to qualify and work in the health service. Considering the current state of the health service, the mass unemployment of newly qualified nurses and other healthcare profesionals is ridiculous. It is time, we the student voice, stood up and be accounted for and stop letting ourselves be taken for granted.

A lunchtime demonstration has been organised for next Thurs outside the hospital at 1pm.

We would ask that students might take 15-20mins out of their day to pop over and show their support.

I hope to meet you all either outside AML at 12.30 or at 1pm outside the main door of the hospital.

Regards,
Liz

For World Week for Laboratory Animals - march against Primate experiments and demonstration at Novartis primate research site in Horsham. Novartis is also one of HLS's largest customers, most notorious for the Xenotransplantation scandal back in 2000.

The research was conducted by a biotechnology company, Imutran Ltd, which is a subsidiary of the multinational drug firm Novartis Pharma AG, in collaboration with the University of Cambridge.

The experiments took place at the controversial Huntingdon Life Sciences laboratories.
See: http://www.shac.net/HLS/exposed/xeno... and
http://www.xenodiaries.org/summary.htm for more information.

The march is a great opportunity to let the people of Horsham know that primate research is still going on here.

Meet 11am at Horsham Park, Horsham, West Sussex
