- Hi there,
My name is Andrew Porter, I am 35 years young. I've been running dogs since I was Born. I have 15 healthy Adult dogs, and 6 beautiful puppies ready start training. Sold the 6.
I've been happily married for 5 yrs now and my wife and i have 2 beautiful boys and 3 gorgeous girls. I run a Taxi Business, and I especially like the out doors.
Back to my breed of dogs, there are a mixture of breeds they have some Alaskan, Siberian, and some Inuit husky for the strength and coat about 15% or less. Mainly the famous Alaskan Husky.
I just added a Awesome little Female, she is a GSP Cross, i love her and i can't wait to see her puppies. I bred her with my favorite Dog Oscar.
I've been finishing all my races in the top 3 the last 10 years. I've been 1st place the last 5 years. My best race was last spring out of 15 competitors, we did a 16 mile run with 3 dogs and I ran it in about 1hr and 35 minutes.
I've been breeding successfully now for the last 15 years.

taking mushers out
Good day,
Last week, and the week before I took two nurses out for a dog team run and going against the North wind was a big challenge.
Although myself and the ten dogs where doing fine in minus 45 below, my passengers where a bit chilled. The wind was very raw, my Qamutiks where cracking seems like every bump was Ice.
We went out 15 minutes and man our faces were like Capital one commercial, where the devil and his little helper were surrounded by ice.
But this was the real deal, within half hour the clothing my passengers down filled clothing sounded very crispy. I was okay because my caribou clothing keep me nice and warm. If only my passengers could where what i was wearing they would now what i mean.
So if your up here in this part of the world please come see my kennel. My house number is 99. Ask anyone in this town and they will be happy to point you to my direction.
I will have a sign up for those of you that are new in Gjoa Haven, Nunavut. I take ride for anyone who has an interest in mushing in the Arctic Tundra.
There is no place like the Arctic, we are only mile from the North Pole. Yet we are the champs of the north.
Why would anyone live up here? Because Inuit People where put on this part of the world by our Creator in Heaven.
We've adapt to our habitat just fine, today we are populating year after year. We have all the things we need here in town, and yet we are living like We are very rich paying top prices for our daily meals.

mushing history
Back in 1940's an RCMP by the name of Cost. Albert Chartand came up to the Arctic to Train Siberian Huskies for the RCMP. Up here he meet up with my Grandma, there nine months later my dad was born.
My father is an retired man still doing the odd chores around the house, he is the one that thought me everything i need to know in life. There are many things that i need to learn, but i'll take it one day at a time.
My family is very supportive in what i do, my dream is to one day go to the Iditarod. I am hoping to make it there in 5 yrs.
I have an awesome breed of dogs, 60% alaskan, 30% Siberian and about 10% of the Inuit husky. I have about six breeding a year, i have three bitches that gave me some really nice puppies this year.
I'll have two planned litters for January 2009. I should have a good mixture of boys and girls. I have a Six month out pup that is running with my main team of 9. I toke him out for a 16 mile round and boy he is just a natural runner like his mother.
These dogs are born runners, all shots are up to date and the dogs are all very healthy. I should have some clip soon and some pictures. Just having trouble downloading some pic.
Until later,

nice dogs, i heard your going to yellowknife?
wondering where Gjoa Haven is ? Amunsden was the person to discover this little inlet, bay for his sail boat the the "Joa" Ronald Amundsen the famous sailor to discover our later to be, " our home "
Gjoa Haven is located on King William Island. Gjoa Haven is not far from the north pole.
We still live some what, like the old days. Still have the old " qamutiks " mushing sleds.
I still where the Caribou made clothing up here because it is the only way that i'll stay warm when i go out into the Arctic Wilderness.
Should you have any idea where to find "Gjoa Haven" is? You can go to google and look for Nunavut Maps, and open to find Gjoa Haven in the Central Region. You will find use on an Island.
We are famous for the Northwest Passage that was Discovered buy Ronald Amundsen. We have a Local Hotel named after him.
It has 40 rooms, 1 manger, 4 cooks, 4 cleaning ladies.
Or you can stay at a bed a breakfast.
