- Me, Myself, and I
- I was born in Asanti, Ghana. My name is Kweku Anansi; Kweku means Wednesday, and this is the day on which I was born. I don’t know which year I was born in, but it was around the time when animals and humans spoke to each other.
I’m known as Anansi the Spider-Man, I am also known as the Keeper of All Stories. And I’ll tell you how that came about:
I went to my father, Nyame, one day and asked him if that’s what I could be called. He said to me that if I could catch the Jaguar with Teeth like Daggers, the Hornets who Sting like Fire, and the Fairy Whom Men Never See, he would grant me my wish. I tricked the jaguar, who was going to eat me, into playing a game that allowed me to tie him up. I tricked the hornets into believing that it was raining, and got them to hide in a calabash (that’s a gourd, a gigantic fruit), and I tricked the fairy with the tar baby trick. I took them all to my father, and he made me the Keeper of All Stories!

Anansi and the Wasp by Hannah Abban (aged 12)
Once upon a time Brother Wasp was a very handsome man, especially when he laughed because he had two pretty rows of teeth. Yes, Wasp used to have teeth. Now, Was was very proud of his teeth. Sometimes he would grind them, sometimes he would shine them and sometimes he was glad to bite somebody to show them how sharp they were. And even when he was supposed to be serious he would laugh or smile so he could show his beautiful teeth.
At this time, Anansi was a postman and every day he had to carry a bag full of letters from house to house. And every day he would pass Brother Wasp on one corner or another showing off his teeth. And because Anansi hated hard work he was always looking for a way to get out of it.
One day Anansi was carrying a big bag of letters when he met Brother Wasp with a crowd of people showing off his teeth as usual, and he decided he was going to find a way to mash up Wasp's life, and his teeth.
FROM NOW ON, HANNAH ABBAN TAKES UP THE STORY......
Leopard was Anansi's boss. He was greedy and, even through he made his employees slave hard he hardly cared about them, no, only about money. Anansi was lucky, that day it happened to be Leopard's birthday so his was in a kinder mood than usual and was allowing most people the day off. Anansi spent all day scheming a plan, and once ready he put it into action. He travelled to his fellow friend, Kwas Answe's house. Kwasi was a farmer who grew the best sugar cane and cocoa in his village. 'Hey if it isn't my friend Anansi!' Kwasi shouted, greeting his friend with a smile. Not long after Anansi walked away with a bag of sweet sugar cane. He stopped at a nearby market and bought some coconuts and continued on his journey home. He woke up the next morning and set off for work. As he delivered the mail, it didn't take him long to bump into Wasp once again surrounded by a crowd. 'Delivery for Brother Wasp,' Anansi shouted as loud as he could above the noise the crowd was making. The crowd made way and as soon as he knew it, Anansi was face to face with Wasp. He handed Wasp the package addressed to him. 'What a surprise,' Wasp said. He opened the package and stared at the sugar cane and coconuts. He immediately handed it back to Anansi. 'I don't eat hard foods for the sake of my teeth.' Anansi stared and pretended to study the foods carefully. 'This variety and type of coconut and sugar cane are very rare you know.' He told Wasp. Wasp suddenly looked interested, 'Really?' Anansi nodded his head. Was hesitated, 'I guess I could try it to see how it tastes.' Anansi handed the foods back to him. Wasp had a strict diet to keep his teeth in shape and good condition and sugar cane and coconuts were definitely not in it. He took some sugar cane and bit it. As soon as you knew it, he bit more and more. Suddenly there was a deafening crunch and the crowd looked at Wasp with worried looks. He held his jaw in pain nd looked at Anansi hatefully. 'My teeth! You did this didn't you?' Anansi decided that this was the time to walk away. 'I'll get you Anansi!' Wasp shouted after him. Anansi smiled. Everyone he tricked always said that to him but of course they never got round to it. After all he wasn't called Anansi for nothing.0 Comments 164 weeks

Anansi and the Wasp by Wan Chi Wong (aged 12 years)
Once upon a time, Brother Wasp was a very handsome man, especially when he laughed because he had two pretty rows of teeth. Yes, Wasp used to have teeth. Now, Wasp was very proud of his teeth. Sometimes he would grind them, sometimes he would shine them and sometimes he was glad to bit somebody to show them how sharp they were. One day Anansi was carrying a big bag of letters when he met Brother Wasp with a crowd of people showing off his teeth as usual, and he decided he was going to find a way to mash up Wasp's life, and his teeth.......(FROM HERE ON WAN CHI WONG CONTINUES THE TALE)
Anansi thought and thought all day wondering. She didn't even come down for dinner. Bingo! He had an idea. It was Brother Wasp's birthday the next day. Maybe she could get lots of sweets because he loved sweets. She thought, 'maybe toffee will be perfect because they stick to your teeth and rot them.' He went to the corner shop to buy millions of toffees. He wrapped and wrapped presents (that had toffee inside) all day like a crazy machine. At last he was finished. It was Brother Wasp's birthday and all the guests finally came. Anansi gave Brother Wasp his birthday present. He saw sweets, toffees! Munch, munch until all his teeth were rotten. Anansi's plan was coming along nicely. He fell asleep, opening his mouth and still showing off his teeth while he was dreaming. the next morning when Brother Wasp woke up, no later than noon as usual, he loooked in the mirror and saw that his teeth were not magnificent any more. They were stale, black and swollen. He thought, 'I need to see a dentist' and booked an appointment straight away. The dentist was not very happy, 'That's what you deserve for not taking care of your teeth. You don't have magnificent teeth anymore. Now I need to take them all out and replace them.' Brother Wasp was not happy. 'It won't be the same,' he said. He learned his lesson not to show off and to take care of his teeth.0 Comments 164 weeks

The show's finished and I'm back where I started
Anansi and the Magic Mirror has finished. I watched nearly every show. The last one was great, the theatre was full to the top. Over 6,000 people have been into the theatre in the last two weeks including lots of school children! When the final curtain went down, the people who work on stage started to chop everything up, take the lights down, pack the props away. Some of the set ended up in a skip, some of it was taken by the cast, and bits have gone back to the Talawa office including a very scarey picture of Lilith - the one that was hanging in the palace after she took over having been released from the Netherworld. Some of the children that saw the show have written their own stories about me and Wasp. Check this space if you'd like to read them. I'm back at the Talawa offices now and I'm going to hang out here in my web until the weather's a bit warmer and I've worked out where to go next. But before I make a move, I need a long sleep. This has been a very big adventure for a likkle spiderman.0 Comments 166 weeks

This is me with Brer Tiger and Brer Monkey at Storyworld's Christmas Party. I can always be found on the dancefloor, cause I have all the moves! We invited stick-man to come and DJ at the party, he's great as he can really mix and he doesn't eat and drink loads like other DJ's I know. Last year ...
