Our Mission:

In today's society there are many evils. Far too people live in fear and hate of things they don't understand.

There are many forms of discrimination such as racism, sexism and ableism. While of course being against discrimination in all its forms, we have come to the conclusion that homophobia is the one which is considered 'acceptable', as there is not enough being done to change misconceptions and punish those who are homophobic.

It is not acceptable.

We have two main aims here at AAHB ~

1. To prevent, combat and seek to end prejudice and discrimination on the grounds of a person's sexuality, not only in legislation but in attitude

2. To provide advice and support to victims of homophobic bullying and abuse, be it physical or verbal

Feel free to come to this group for help and advice. Joining will help the campaign grow.

    HIV and AIDS affect gay and bisexual men far more than other sexualities and it is for this reason that the NHS does not allow these groups to give blood... Or is it?..

    Four questions are asked of you if you go to give blood;

    1. Have you ever had sex with a prostitute?
    If you have, you are banned from giving blood for 12 months.

    2. Have you ever had sex with an intravenious drug user?
    If you have, you are banned from giving blood for 12 months.

    3. Have you ever had sex with someone who has or have you yourself been given a blood tranfusion in a country which has a high rate of HIV and AIDS?
    If you have, you are banned for 12 months.

    4. Have you ever had protected or unprotected sex with another man?
    If you have, you are banned for life.

    Where is the sense in that?

    If you've had protected sex with one man you will present no risk.
    Not according to the NHS.
    If you've had unprotected sex with multiple partners for years you'll present a risk.
    Not according to the NHS.

    Please tell us your thoughts.

    I myself have been victim to lots of different forms of homophobic bullying, from cruel comments to having food thrown at my head. I've been made to feel dirty and like I'm doing something wrong. I've been judged and hated by people who don't even know me.

    Hello supporters!

    Unfortunately the campaign is going to have to slow for a bit. :(

    Half of us (David) are revising for upcoming exams and prelims :( What a bore!
    And the other half (Rachael) are going to be without an internet connection for the next week or so, while we change providers. :(

    So apologies if videos and blogs go missing and comments get left for a wee bit but we're trying to find inventive ways to work round these problems :)

  • Conference Update

    Hello there!

    We are very pleased to be able to give you more info on our lovely conference!

    We are holding an event bringing young people together with top-level decision makers to share their stories of homophobic bullying in further education and gain a commitment from providers to bring about a change in the situation. A workshop with young people will be held prior to the event (in July- we think!) to find out how they would like the conference to run and the sorts of issues they feel it needs to address.

    We're thinking about inviting young people from the region and senior management from further education learning providers to the event which should be taking place in October.

    Once we've got their attention, by inviting students to share their stories of homophobic bullying to the stage and by letting them hear some frightening facts and statistics, we want them to show us how they are going to make a difference in their institution.
    We're still not sure how we're going to check up on their progress or what we're going to ask them to do exactly but that's what the next few weeks of planning are for.

    Apologies for all our late blogs - bebo doesn't seem to like what we have to say and tends to crash when we hit save. :S

    well done for setting this site up! in a supposidly forward thinking society we live in today why does homphobia still excist and cause such pain?

    essentially its understand what homophobia is! the fear of somthing a person cant or wont understand!

    therefore if we remove the fear do we remove the homophobia or is homophobia with us for all time?

    Perhaps its time for open discussion on how we together tackle homophobia.
