About Me

Tagline
Welcome to 2009!
Me, Myself, and I
We are NAGS.
Or Nayland Alliance of Gays and Straights.

We are a school based group within Nayland College in Nelson, New Zealand.

This group is about an alliance between queer people and heterosexuals, not just a support group for people confused about their sexuality. Straight supporters are as much welcome as queer youth. We are a group for people of any sexuality to meet, socialise and make a change.

For more infomation on meeting times, the group in general or how to start your own group please feel free to email us at
n-a-g-s@hotmail.com

*Queer is a reclaimed word that represents sexuality and gender diversity. We use it to encompass lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, fa'afafine, and takataapui identities, as well as everyone in between and not sure. http://www.outthere.org.nz

We currently meet every Monday lunch time in the Whanau Theatre, everybody is welcome. Our core committee meets Monday intervals at the Cottage.

  • Q-Youth Hui

    The Short Version:

What:A hui for queer youth and queer youth workers around NZ
    When: 11am 29th to 1pm 31st January
    Where:Te Awhina Marae in Motueka
    Cost: $50 per person
Please register before 11/01/10 at http://www.q-youth.org

    Contact: info@q-youth.org

Q-Youth Nelson is hosting a Regional Queer Youth Hui 29-31 January 2010. Modelled after the Kaha Hui in Wellington, this is an excellent opportunity for queer youth and queer youth workers to come together from around the country.

The Hui will begin at 11am on Friday 29th January at Fairfield House in Nelson. This part of the Hui is open to everybody and is planned as a brainstorming opportunity for the Queer Youth Network National Co-ordinator. This is an exciting new role funded by Rainbow Youth in Auckland. Rainbow Youth are developing a national focus and are filling the gap created by the closure of OUT THERE! We hope that we'll get lots of people together to help develop a vision for the future of the queer youth network in Aotearoa/NZ.

To follow this the hui will continue in Motueka - transport to Te Awhina Marae will be leaving from Fairfield House at 4pm. Te Awhina Marae is located in sunny and beautiful Motueka, a 40 minute drive from Nelson and is the venue for the weekend Hui. The weekend Hui will begin at 6pm with a full powhiri on the 29th of January. The Hui will finish at midday on the 31st of January (with transport back to Nelson from 1pm).

At the Hui Nathan Brown, of NZ Aids Foundation, will unveil the much anticipated CURIOUS website, an online information and networking site for queer youth all over NZ. The website launch is aptly timed, coinciding with the launch of Rainbow Youth's national focus, providing networking and support for our national queer youth networks.

    $50 per person
Please register before 11/01/10 at http://www.q-youth.org
It's been a full year since our last queer youth Hui, lets link together and have a great time.

  • Mask Parade!

    Hi everyone :-]

Come and join us in the 2009 Port Nelson Mask Parade! The theme is One World: Global Creative Spirit.

Q-Youth, QYou!, NAGS, WAGS, MAGS and GALS are all coming together to take part in the mask parade this Friday!

This Wednesday at Q-Youth we're going to be making masks and other cool things for the Mask Parade which is this Friday - meeting in Montgomery car park at 4:30.

On Wednesday we need everyone to bring anything that might be useful - random art stuff, pens, paints, material, musical instruments, 'queer'ish songs on your iPod, masks, ANYTHING!

For those of you who can't make it this Wednesday at Q-Youth to make a mask, just come along on the day in your most bright and colorful or rainbow clothes. Bring a mask if you have one but if not we'll have spares to hand out to people.

We want to look amazing and maybe be front page material like NAGS were last year, so everyone please bring anything that might be good!

    See you there :-]
